DNA-fragmentation and expression of apoptosis-related proteins in experimentally denervated and reinnervated rat facial muscle

1997

Muscle fibres may undergo apoptotic cell death in several neuromuscular disorders such as denervated muscle fibres in spinal muscular atrophies. We investigated DNA-fragmentation (in situ by the TUNEL-method) and expression of apoptosis-associated proteins in experimentally denervated and reinnervated rat facial muscle up to 24 weeks after surgery to evaluate the rate and time lapse of apoptotic muscle fibre loss. While denervated muscle displayed constantly high rates of DNA-fragmentation, denervated and immediately reinnervated muscle showed a distinct decrease of primarily elevated DNA-cleavage, finally resembling rates of normal controls. Denervated muscle fibres revealed strong immunor…

Determination of Paint Solvents by Vapour Phase Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry.

1997

Abstract A fast procedure has been developed for the direct determination of paint solvents. The method is based on the injection of small volumes of untreated solvent mixtures into a heated Pyrex glass reactor in which the sample is volatilized and introduced by means of a flow of nitrogen into an IR multiple pass gas cell and the spectrum in the mid-IR region is registered as a function of time. Data found for samples are interpolated in calibration graphs obtained by injecting different volumes of pure compounds which constitute the solvent mixture. A methylisobutylketone (MIBK) toluene mixture was used as test system to develop the proposed procedure. The method provides a limit of dete…

Speciation of chromium in natural waters by micropumping multicommutated light emitting diode photometry.

2007

Abstract A simple and sensitive multicommutated flow procedure, implemented by employing a homemade light emitting diode (LED) based photometer, has been developed for the determination of chromium (VI) and total chromium in water. The flow system comprised a set of four solenoid micro-pumps, which were assembled to work as fluid propelling and as commutating devices. The core of the detection unit comprised a green LED source, a photodiode and a homemade flow cell of 100 mm length and 2 mm inner diameter. The photometric procedure for the speciation of chromium in natural waters was based on the reaction of Cr (VI) with 1,5-diphenylcarbazide. Cr (III) was previously oxidized to Cr (VI) and…

32×32 winner-take-all matrix with single winner selection

2010

A 32 × 32 winner-take-all (WTA) matrix with single winner selection is introduced. A high-resolution gain-boosted regulated-cascode WTA circuit is used in a first competition stage. Because of the large number of competing cells the possibility of a multiple winners situation arises. A single winner is obtained by means of a digital inhibitory circuit following each WTA analogue amplifier. Simulations show that this mixed analogue-digital circuit achieves its objective with a current resolution of approximately 10 nA (0.8% of the maximum input current in the simulated case). A time response of ?s can be achieved.

Calcium-binding sites in the inner ear after pure-tone stimulation

1991

Five guinea pigs were exposed to an interrupted 90 dB SPL pure tone of 3.2 kHz for a total application time of 5 min. Following sound application all animals were decapitated and the cochleae were removed. After that, calcium-binding sites were located by the potassium pyroantimonate precipitation method. Another three animals served as control animals and did not receive the sound treatment. Findings confirmed previous studies showing the spatial arrangements of precipitate rich regions in the inner ear's two acellular structures (the basilar membrane and tectorial membrane) and the two cellular structures (the inner hair cells and Huschke's teeth). By using semiquantitative evaluation we …

On product of p-sequential spaces

2016

Abstract The product of finitely many regular p-compact p-sequential spaces is p-compact p-sequential for any free ultrafilter p as it follows from [5] . In the paper is produced an example of a Hausdorff p-compact p-sequential space whose square is not p-sequential. It is also given an example of a space which is sP-radial, wP-radial, vwP-radial for any P ⊂ μ ( τ ) but its square is neither sP-radial nor wP-radial nor vwP-radial space.

Symplectic automorphisms of prime order on K3 surfaces

2006

The aim of this paper is to study algebraic K3 surfaces (defined over the complex number field) with a symplectic automorphism of prime order. In particular we consider the action of the automorphism on the second cohomology with integer coefficients. We determine the invariant sublattice and its perpendicular complement, and show that the latter coincides with the Coxeter-Todd lattice in the case of automorphism of order three. We also compute many explicit examples, with particular attention to elliptic fibrations.

Sets of Efficiency in a Normed Space and Inner Product

1987

In a normed space X the distances to the points of a given set A being considered as the objective functions of a multicriteria optimization problem, we define four sets of efficiency (efficient, strictly efficient, weakly efficient and properly efficient points). Instead of studying properties of the sets of efficiency according to properties of the norm, we investigate an inverse problem: deduce properties of the norm of X from properties of the sets of efficiency, valid for every finite subset A of X.
