Luce per rivivere… Alla scoperta di Baetulo, Catalogna / Light to relive…Discovering Baetulo, Catalonia
2013
Artificial lighting needs to return with full titles in the expertize of those committed to tackle the issue of enriching archeological sites, especially in the mediterranean area. As a matter of fact, in the last ten years, we have aided an openminded progression towards the external world of those who we can call “pl…
Neo Open Innovation in the Digital Economy : Harnessing Soft Innovation Resources
2018
Successive increases in R&D that creates new functionality are essential for global competitiveness. However, unexpectedly, as a consequence of the two-faced nature of information and communication technology (ICT), excessive R&D results in a marginal productivity decline leading to a decrease in digital value creation. In order to overcome such a dilemma, global ICT firms have been endeavoring to transform themselves into disruptive business model. Neo open innovation that harnesses soft innovation resources may be a solution to this critical question. On the basis of an empirical analysis focusing on forefront endeavors to this dilemma by global ICT firms, this paper attempted to demonstr…
Transition to Digital Distribution Platforms and Business Model Evolution
2019
How do business models evolve when technology-based firms move from physical distribution channels to digital distribution platforms? This is an important question, since digitalization of distribution platforms provides new opportunities to expand the reach and customer base of technology-based firms. Based on an in-depth multi-case study of four Japanese high-tech firms, we seek to expand our understanding of digital transformation and business model literature. Our findings indicate that that through digital transformation, the case firms’ business models evolved toward more constant interaction with the market, in particular through digital platforms. This interaction includes growing a…
Transformative direction of R&D– lessons from Amazon's endeavor
2019
Amazon jumped up to the world's top Research and Development (R&D) firm in 2017. Such a rapid and notable increase in R&D investment has raised the question of a new R&D definition in the digital economy, which Amazon insists includes both “routine or periodic alterations” (traditionally classified as non-R&D) and “significant improvement” (classified as R&D), as Amazon transforms the former into the latter during its R&D process. A convincing answer to this question will give rise to insightful suggestions regarding a new concept of R&D in the digital economy. peerReviewed
Investing in strategic development : Management control of business model and managerial innovations
2018
Purpose This paper aims to explore management control in the strategic development of business model and managerial innovations. The issue is approached from the perspective of managerial work, aiming to outline what managers consider as essential elements of management control in these often iterative and learning-intensive developmental activities. Design/methodology/approach The study is based on the views of 20 managers engaged in strategic development and its control in various organisations. The interview data consist of the respondents’ experiences and project cases involving non-technological innovations. Qualitative content analysis is used to identify three key concepts of manage…
The aim of this paper is to revise the teaching and learning dimension that university educational innovation based on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has to offer, with special focus on the linguistic model associated with it and th…

Innovations in Logistics and Supply Chains in the Light of the Global Patenting Activity
2017
Innovative activity in the sphere of logistics and supply chains carried out by many entities is reflected in the registered patents and in the commercialization of the results of basic and applied research. Observation of these activities can reveal the direction of further evolution of logistics and supply chain transformation. Business patents portfolios or R&D activities, including those supported by public funds reveal what the main actors in the innovation market see as technological gaps in the sphere of logistics and supply chain. It also unveils their patented (protected in the form of patent) solutions that are currently available – initially as high-capacity solutions and as a ma…
Innovation dynamics in space. Local actors and local factors
1997
This paper addresses the issue of technogenesis and its geographical pattern. It aims to offer both a general analysis framework and a test on innovation data from several European cities. This framework is mainly built on the product life-cycle and the incubation approach. On the basis of this framework, it is argued that the phases of an industrial life-cycle have several firm-specific effects. First, these phases influence innovativeness and thus profit levels, output and employment of firms in a spatially distinct way. Second, the phases of the life-cycle mirror the importance of local factors for innovations, and third, they affect strategic decisions of firms, inter alia by influencin…
Biology of the sauropod dinosaurs: the evolution of gigantism
2010
The herbivorous sauropod dinosaurs of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods were the largest terrestrial animals ever, surpassing the largest herbivorous mammals by an order of magnitude in body mass. Several evolutionary lineages among Sauropoda produced giants with body masses in excess of 50 metric tonnes by conservative estimates. With body mass increase driven by the selective advantages of large body size, animal lineages will increase in body size until they reach the limit determined by the interplay of bauplan, biology, and resource availability. There is no evidence, however, that resource availability and global physicochemical parameters were different enough in the Mesozoic to ha…
