Stochastic dynamic analysis of fractional viscoelastic systems

A method is presented to compute the non-stationary response of single-degree-of-freedom structural systems with fractional damping. Based on an appropriate change of variable and a discretization of the fractional derivative operator, the equation of motion is reverted to a set of coupled linear equations involving additional half oscillators, the number of which depends on the discretization of the fractional derivative operator. Identifying structural difference in exchange matrices can be performed using either 'directed' or 'undirected' methods. Directed methods are based on the computation and comparison of column- or row-normalizations of the matrices. Theory of modal attraction in bimodal birefringent optical fibers

Nonlinear mode coupling among two beams of different wavelength that copropagate in a bimodal highly birefringent optical fiber may lead to the effect of modal attraction. Under such circumstances, the modal distribution of light at a pump wavelength is replicated at the signal wavelength, nearly irrespective of the input mode excitation conditions of the signal.

International audience; In this work, we present a theoretical and experimental study of the response of a lossless polarizer to a signal beam with a time-varying state of polarization (SOP). By lossless polarizer, we mean a nonlinear conservative medium (e.g., an optical fiber) that is counterpumped by an intense and fully polarized pump beam. Such a medium transforms input uniform or random distributions of the SOP of an intense signal beam into output distributions that are tightly localized around a well-defined SOP. A review of DEA models when the internal structure of the decision making units is considered

Classical Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models consider each Decision Making Unit (DMU), whose relative efficiency they evaluate, as a "black box", i.e., its internal structure is disregarded. The paper presents a comprehensive framework of the most advanced theoretical findings in DEA when the internal structure of the. DMUs is taken into account, thus giving directions for novel applications of such methodology and introducing it as a powerful toot for complex processes performance evaluation.

Electrodynamic Characteristics of a Strip Antenna Located on a Plane Interface of a Resonant Magnetoplasma and an Isotropic Medium

We study the electrodynamic characteristics of an antenna having the form of an infinitesimally thin, perfectly conducting narrow strip located on a plane interface of a resonant magnetoplasma and an isotropic medium. The antenna is perpendicular to an external magnetic field and is excited by a given voltage. Singular integral equations for the antenna current, on the basis of which the current distribution is found in the case of an infinitely long radiator, are obtained. Cross-Spectrum PM Noise Measurement, Thermal Energy, and Metamaterial Filters.

International audience; Virtually all commercial instruments for the measurement of the oscillator PM noise make use of the crossspectrum method (arXiv:1004.5539 [physics.ins-det], 2010). High sensitivity is achieved by correlation and averaging on two equal channels, which measure the same input, and reject the background of the instrument.We show that a systematic error is always present if the thermal energy of the input power splitter is not accounted for. Such error can result in noise underestimation up to a few decibels in the lowest-noise quartz oscillators, and in an invalid measurement in the case of cryogenic oscillators. International audience; Experiencing pleasure and displeasure is a fundamental part of life. Hedonics guide behavior, affect decision-making, induce learning, and much more. As the positive and negative valence of feelings, hedonics are core processes that accompany emotion, motivation, and bodily states. Path integral solution for nonlinear systems under parametric Poissonian white noise input

Abstract In this paper the problem of the response evaluation in terms of probability density function of nonlinear systems under parametric Poisson white noise is addressed. Specifically, extension of the Path Integral method to this kind of systems is introduced. Such systems exhibit a jump at each impulse occurrence, whose value is obtained in closed form considering two general classes of nonlinear multiplicative functions.
