The πd scattering length from Kα X-rays

1974

Abstract X-rays from the K α transition (2P → 1S) of the π − d mesic atom have been observed. Their energy, 2592.8 −2.0 +1.6 , has been measured by the critical absorber technique, using the M V absorption edge in bismuth. The strong interaction shift in the 1S state is −4.8 eV, corresponding to a scattering length a ( π d) = −(0.052 −0.017 +0.022 ) m π −1 , in agreement with recent calculations. The intensity ratio K α /K total = 0.548 ± 0.015.

Age differences in olfactory affective responses: evidence for a positivity effect and an emotional dedifferentiation

2021

International audience; Studies on aging and hedonic judgment of odors have never been addressed within the empirical frameworks of age-related changes in emotion which state that advancing age is associated with a reduced negativity bias and a less pronounced differentiation between hedonic valence and emotional intensity judgments. Our aim was to examine and extend these age-related effects into the field of odors. Thirty-eight younger adults and 40 older adults were asked to evaluate the hedonic valence, emotional intensity, and familiarity of 50 odors controlled for their pleasantness. Compared to younger adults, older adults rated unpleasant odorants as less unpleasant and showed an in…

Covarying patterns of white matter lesions and cortical atrophy predict progression in early MS

2020

ObjectiveWe applied longitudinal 3T MRI and advanced computational models in 2 independent cohorts of patients with early MS to investigate how white matter (WM) lesion distribution and cortical atrophy topographically interrelate and affect functional disability.MethodsClinical disability was measured using the Expanded Disability Status Scale Score at baseline and at 1-year follow-up in a cohort of 119 patients with early relapsing-remitting MS and in a replication cohort of 81 patients. Covarying patterns of cortical atrophy and baseline lesion distribution were extracted by parallel independent component analysis. Predictive power of covarying patterns for disability progression was tes…

Moderate hypofractionated helical tomotherapy for prostate cancer in a cohort of older patients: a mono-institutional report of toxicity and clinical…

2019

Purpose or objective: To evaluate toxicity and outcomes of moderately hypofractionated helical tomotherapy for the curative treatment of a cohort of patients aged ≥ 75 years with localized prostate cancer (PC). Materials and methods: From January 2013 to February 2017, 95 patients with median age 77 years (range 75–88) were treated for PC. 39% were low risk, 33% intermediate risk (IR), 28% high risk (HR). Median iPSA was 9.42 ng/ml (1.6–107). Androgen deprivation was prescribed according to NCCN recommendations. All patients received 70 Gy in 28 fractions to the prostate; 61.6 Gy were delivered to the seminal vesicles for IR; whole pelvis irradiation with a total dose of 50.4 Gy was added i…

Absolute volume of the rectum and AUC from rectal DVH between 25Gy and 50Gy predict acute gastrointestinal toxicity with IG-IMRT in prostate cancer

2016

International audience; Background: To determine whether dose/volume specific endpoints (DVSE) or Area under the rectal DVH curve (rAUC) better predict acute gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity in prostate cancer patients treated with IMRT in the era of daily image guidance (IG-IMRT). Methods: A set of DVSE was recorded from V25 to V75 (increments of 5Gy) (both in % and in cc) for 180 men. The rAUC was calculated for doses ranging between 25Gy and 50Gy (rAUC(25-50)). Univariate and multivariate logistic regressions were performed to determine the relationship between DVSE or rAUC(25-50) and the appearance of any acute GI toxicity. Results: The rates of acute grade 1 (G1), G2 and G3 GI toxicities…

Intensity modulated radiation therapy with simultaneous integrated boost in early breast cancer irradiation. Report of feasibility and preliminary to…

2015

To investigate the feasibility and tolerance in the use of adjuvant intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and simultaneous integrated boost in patients with a diagnosis of breast cancer after breast-conserving surgery.Between September 2011 to February 2013, 112 women with a diagnosis of early breast cancer (T1-2, N0-1, M0) were treated with IMRT and simultaneous integrated boost after breast-conserving surgery in our institution. A dose of 50Gy in 25 fractions was prescribed to the whole breast and an additional dose of radiation was prescribed on the tumour bed. A dose prescription of 60Gy in 25 fractions to the tumour bed was used in patients with negative margins after surgery, w…

Analysis of the road traffic management system in the neural network development perspective

2019

The research goal of the paper is to present the issues connected with road traffic management systems and to illustrate a management system that uses Intelligent Transportation Systems and neural networks. The use of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is a method of improving the conditions of communications, making it independent from the development of communications infrastructure. The attributes of neural networks are focused on solving the problems of optimisation, which involve the development of optimal strategies for traffic management. The proposed road traffic management system that uses ITS and neural networks can be applied in prediction of the conditions of communication…

Instantaneous frequency measurement by in-fiber 0.5th order fractional differentiation

2016

We experimentally demonstrate the possibility to retrieve the instantaneous frequency profile of a given temporal light pulse by in-fiber fractional order differentiation of 0.5th-order. The signal's temporal instantaneous frequency profile is obtained by simple dividing two temporal intensity profiles, namely the intensities of the input and output pulses of a spectrally-shifted fractional order differentiation. The results are supported by the experimental measurement of the instantaneous frequency profile of a mode-locked laser. Fil: Poveda-Wong, L.. Universidad de Valencia; España Fil: Carrascosa, A.. Linear and nonlinear fiber propagation of partially coherent fields exhibiting temporal correlations

2019

International audience; Using ultrafast photonic first-order differentiator applied on a partially coherent field, we report the generation of two correlated temporal waveforms and study their correlation properties upon linear and nonlinear propagation along the two orthogonal polarization axis of a dispersive optical fiber. Temporal correlations are maintained in linear propagation whereas Kerr nonlinearity generates anti-correlated temporal intensity patterns for both partially and uncorrelated fields. Experiments are in close agreement with the theoretical analysis.
