¿Revuelta de Masaniello o revolución de Nápoles? Una reinterpretación
2020
Between 7 and 16 July 1647 a popular revolt, led by a young fishmonger, Masaniello, shook the city of Naples. The killing of Masaniello, however, did not lead to the end of the riots. On the contrary, the revolt involved the entire kingdom of Naples, radicalized in an anti-Spanish sense and resulted in the proclamation of the Republic and the call of a French prince, the Duke of Guisa. On these events, and especially on the fracture that permanently opposed people and nobles, historiography has long debated. It is possible, however, today, also on the basis of new archival documents, to propose a different interpretation of the events, which integrates the two moments and allows an updated …
Translation and terminology. On two Spanish versions (Madrid, 1800) of Dumarsais’ Logique
2013
This article is the Spanish version of “Traduction et terminologie. A propos de deux versions espagnoles (Madrid, 1800) de la Logique de Dumarsais” by Brigitte Lépinette. It was not published on the print version of MonTI for reasons of space. The online version of MonTI does not suffer from these limitations, and this is our way of promoting plurilingualism. Framed in the field of philosophical translation (lato sensu), this article deals with two different versions of Logique by Dumarsais (Paris, 1730) published in Spain. We show that these two “Lógicas”, translated by two different persons, who also had distinct purposes as is evidenced by their respective bibliographical context and met…
Can Artificial Intelligence Interprete Legal Norms? A Problem of Practical Reason
2021
Translators vs translatresses’ strategies: ethical and ideological challenges
2011
In the last few years there has been an increasing interest in the issue of gender in translation practice especially thanks to the work of feminist critics and translators who see the act of translating as an activity which involves making use not of speciously neutral, so-called objective strategies, but rather dynamic procedures and tactics which negotiate and are negotiable, open and contingent, and which never assume feminine subjectivity to be an absolute and stable category. Drawing on such premises, this work will focus on the interrelation between identity, textuality and translation in an attempt to explore the idea that gender representation in translation practice may be shaped …
Audiovisual accessibility on the web: subtitling in the European Parliament
2020
Profiling deaf and hard-of-hearing users of subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing in Italy: a questionnaire-based study
2012
The aim of this article is to present the results of a questionnaire-based study carried out as part of the author’s Master’s Degree dissertation about Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard-of-hearing (SDH). In particular, the need to gather specific information regarding audience design will be highlighted in the paper, since this research field has long been neglected in Italy. The questions were aimed at shedding light on the needs, cultural environment and world-view of Italian SDH users, by eliciting personal data as well as subtitlerelated information. Moreover, the 232 respondents were asked to suggest improvements to SDH services in Italy. Although these first results cannot allow definit…
The cognitive shift in terminology and specialized translation
2009
Terminology and French-Spanish business translation: evaluating terminology resources for the translation of accounting documents
2014
This article is the English version of “Terminología y traducción económica francés-español: evaluación de recursos terminológicos en el ámbito contable” by Daniel Gallego Hernández. It was not published on the print version of MonTI for reasons of space. The online version of MonTI does not suffer from these limitations, and this is our way of promoting plurilingualism. First we identify the terminology needs of a specific group of translator trainees when facing business translation, as well as the resources they use …
Translation as a measure of literary domination: the case of Quebec literature translated in Spain (1975-2004)
2010
Recent literary manifestos claim that “the center is no longer the center” (Le Devoir 2007). Indeed, it is generally admitted that Quebec literature has been more or less independent from the French field since the 1970’s. However, the analysis of the translation of this literature –its international circulation, and the almost compulsory stopover in France before being selected for translation by the agents of other literary fields– reveals various mechanisms through which the French symbolic center still exerts its power. Drawing on the application of Pierre Bourdieu’s sociology of culture to the international space (Casanova 1999; Sapiro 2007, 2008; etc.), this article argues that transl…
