Hip pain in adolescents: Results of a cross-sectional study in German pupils and a review of the literature
2007
Aim: To determine the prevalence of hip pain (HP) in adolescents in East Germany and to evaluate the potential factors associated with HP. Design: Cross-sectional epidemiological study of a total of 2368 pupils (1137 males, 1231 females; age 14.5±0.65, range 13–18 y). Demographic data and information on sports activity and consumption of soft legal drugs were obtained using a questionnaire. Physical examination was carried out by school doctors. Odds ratio (OR [95% confidence interval]) was calculated for common factors associated with HP. Results: The prevalence of adolescents suffering from HP was 6.5% (n=151). Pain episodes were reported as occasional in 3.0%. A total of 69 subjects (2.9…
Maternal body mass index, change in weight status from childhood to late adulthood and physical activity in older age
2021
This study aimed to examine the longitudinal associations of maternal body mass index (BMI), weight status in childhood and late adulthood and device-measured total physical activity (TPA) in older age. The study involves 552 participants from Helsinki Birth Cohort Study who were born in Helsinki, Finland, in 1934-1944. TPA was measured with a multisensory body monitor at a mean age of 70 years and expressed in metabolic equivalent of task hours/day (METh/d). Childhood overweight (BMI > 85th percentile) was based on school health records at 6-7 years of age, and late adulthood overweight (BMI >= 25 kg/m(2)) was based on clinical measurements at the mean age of 61 years. Childhood overweight…
Estimators and confidence intervals of f2 using bootstrap methodology for the comparison of dissolution profiles
2021
Abstract Background and objectives: The most widely used method to compare dissolution profiles is the similarity factor f 2 . When this method is not applicable, the confidence interval of f 2 using bootstrap methodology has been recommended instead. As neither details of the estimator nor the types of confidence intervals are described in the guidelines, the suitability of five estimators and fourteen types of confidence intervals were investigated in this study by simulation. Methods: One million individual dissolution profiles were simulated for the reference and test populations with predefined target population f 2 values, where random samples of different sizes were drawn without rep…
Comparison of free software platforms for the calculation of the 90% confidence interval of f2 similarity factor by bootstrap analysis
2020
Abstract Introduction The calculation of the 90% confidence interval of f2 based on the bootstrap methodology has been proposed and accepted by the main regulatory authorities when the dissolution data shows excessive variability. Different free software platforms allow the calculation of the 90% CI of f2 by means of bootstrapping. Their use in regulatory submissions is growing, but divergent results have been observed between the available software platforms. Therefore, the objective of this work is to analyze the characteristics of these software platforms and evaluate their results. Methods and materials Highly variable in vitro dissolution data from two products were selected. Three dif…
A case series associated with different kinds of endo-perio lesions
2014
Pulpal and periodontal problems are responsible for more than half of the tooth mortality. There are some articles published in the literature about this issue. Many of them are quite old. There has been also lack of knowledge about the effect of endodontic treatment on the periodontal tissue healing and suitable treatment interval between endodontic and periodontal treatments. In this case report, different kinds of endo-perio lesion were treated with sequential endodontic and periodontal treatment. The follow-up radiographs showed complete healing of the hard and soft tissue lesions. The tooth with endo-perio lesions should be evaluated thoroughly in terms of any cracks and fracture, espe…
A CHARACTERIZATION OF THE WEAK RADON–NIKODÝM PROPERTY BY FINITELY ADDITIVE INTERVAL FUNCTIONS
2009
AbstractA characterization of Banach spaces possessing the weak Radon–Nikodým property is given in terms of finitely additive interval functions. Due to that characterization several Banach space valued set functions that are only finitely additive can be represented as integrals.
Radon-Nikodym derivatives of finitely additive interval measures taking values in a Banach space with basis
2011
Let X be a Banach space with a Schauder basis {en}, and let Φ(I)= ∑n en ∫I fn(t)dt be a finitely additive interval measure on the unit interval [0, 1], where the integrals are taken in the sense of Henstock–Kurzweil. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for Φ to be the indefinite integral of a Henstock–Kurzweil–Pettis (or Henstock, or variational Henstock) integrable function f:[0, 1] → X.
Differentiation of an additive interval measure with values in a conjugate Banach space
2014
We present a complete characterization of finitely additive interval measures with values in conjugate Banach spaces which can be represented as Henstock-Kurzweil-Gelfand integrals. If the range space has the weak Radon-Nikodým property (WRNP), then we precisely describe when these integrals are in fact Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integrals.
Drugs and Nondrugs: An Effective Discrimination with Topological Methods and Artificial Neural Networks
2003
A set of topological and structural descriptors has been used to discriminate general pharmacological activity. To that end, we selected a group of molecules with proven pharmacological activity including different therapeutic categories, and another molecule group without any activity. As a method for pharmacological activity discrimination, an artificial neural network was used, dividing molecules into active and inactive, to train the network and externally validate it. The following plot frequency distribution diagrams were used: a function of the number of drugs within a value interval, and the output value of the neural network versus these values. Pharmacological distribution diagram…
Adverse events as potential predictive factors of activity in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma treated with lenvatinib
2021
Background and Aim: Lenvatinib is a standard of care option in first-line therapy of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In the present study, we aim to identify, in patients with HCC treated with lenvatinib, a possible association between occurrence and grading of adverse events (AEs) and outcome. Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of 606 Japanese and Italian patients treated with lenvatinib in first-line setting and investigated the possible correlation between the onset of AEs, toxicity grade (G) and outcome measures such as overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). Results: The appearance of arterial hypertension G ≥ 2 independently predicted prolonged …
