Habit and physical activity : Theoretical advances, practical implications, and agenda for future research

Objective: Understanding habits may inform intervention development aimed at promoting physical activity maintenance for long-term health. In the present article, I review theory and research on habits applied to physical activity. I provide an overview of contemporary conceptualizations of habit and habit theory; address whether or not physical activity can be habitual; review perspectives on how physical activity habits develop; summarize research on effects of physical activity habits; identify intervention strategies effective in promoting physical activity habits; and propose an agenda for future research on physical activity habits. Influence of sexual sensation seeking, sexual compulsivity and sexual pleasure in condom use among Spanish youth: implications for HIV interventions

Spain is one of the countries with the highest incidence of HIV within the European Union. Multiple and complex factors influence HIV infection in young people. This study aims to determine the influence of sexual sensation seeking, sexual compulsivity and perceived sexual pleasure variables in condom use. A total of 424 heterosexual youth were evaluated (M age = 20.62; SD = 2.62) distributed into a risk group (60.7%) and a no-risk group (39.3%). Cognitive behavioural therapy interventions for insomnia among shift workers: RCT in an occupational health setting

Abstract Introduction The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of cognitive behavioural therapy interventions for insomnia (CBT-I) to that of a sleep hygiene intervention in a randomized controlled design among shift workers. We also studied whether the features of shift work disorder (SWD) affected the results. Methods A total of 83 shift workers with insomnia disorder were partially randomized into a group-based CBT-I, self-help CBT-I, or sleep hygiene control intervention. ABSTRACT. Violence is a serious problem, and social and health care providers are in a key position for implementing successful interventions. This qualitative study of 6 focus groups with professionals (n = 30) examines the health care professionals’ ways of framing a domestic violence intervention. Of special interest here is how professionals see their own roles in the process of recognizing and helping victims of domestic violence. Tout en reprenant les enseignements de travaux de recherche conduits en France au sujet de la pauvreté et de l’intervention sociale en milieu agricole et rural, ce texte montre les conditions d’élaboration de savoirs s’appuyant sur des connaissances issues des sciences humaines et sociales et sur des observations conduites par et avec des professionnels de l’action sociale. Au-delà du repérage de situations qui caractérisent les espaces ruraux, il souligne l’apport de différentes méthodes d’investigation pour affiner le regard sur les conditions de vie des plus pauvres, les capacités d’adaptation dont ils disposent et les dispositifs qui leur sont destinés.

El principal objetivo de la presente investigación consiste en reflexionar sobre posibles necesidades y buenas prácticas en la intervención social con mujeres en situación de sinhogarismo. Con esta finalidad se han realizado historias de vida a mujeres que se encuentran en dicha situación. También se han elaborado entrevistas a profesionales que trabajan actualmente con mujeres sin hogar.
