The aim of this study was to assess safety and efficacy of ultrasonography (US)-guided intra-articular injections using tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blockers compared to corticosteroids in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or psoriatic arthritis (PsA) patients, experiencing refractory monoarthritis despite the current systemic therapy. Eighty-two patients were randomized to receive three intra-articular injections monthly of either corticosteroid or TNF blockers. Abstract Background Magnetic resonance arthrography (MRA) requires intra-articular injection of gadolinium-based diluted paramagnetic contrast material. To our knowledge, gadobenate dimeglumine (Gd-BOPTA) has never been used for intra-articular applications. Our aim was to test in vitro different concentrations of Gd-BOPTA to be potentially used to perform MRA. Orthopedic versus surgical treatment of Gartland type II supracondylar humerus fracture in children.

The choice of orthopedic or surgical treatment for Gartland type II supracondylar humeral fractures remains controversial. The aim of this study was to retrospectively compare the outcomes in orthopedic and surgical treatment in type II supracondylar humeral fractures in children treated in the Orthopedic and Traumatology Children Unit of our tertiary hospital over the period between 2007 and 2010. This study suggests that orthopedic treatment is a valid option for the treatment of this type of fractures, with radiological and functional results as good as those obtained with surgical treatment, avoiding surgical complications and decreasing the hospital stay.

Modular megaprosthesis reconstruction for oncological and non-oncological resection of the elbow joint

Abstract Background Reconstruction of large bone defects around the elbow joint is surgically demanding due to sparse soft tissue coverage, complex biomechanics and the close proximity to neurovascular structures. Modular megaprostheses are established reconstruction tools for the elbow, but only small case series have been reported in the literature. Methods Thirty-six patients who underwent reconstruction of the elbow joint with a modular megaprosthesis were reviewed retrospectively.
