The Role of Municipalities in Promoting Well-Being

The aim of the paper is to research different approaches to researching and promoting the well-being in municipalities. To achieve the aim, such qualitative and quantitative methods of research as comparing, grouping, graphical analysis, focus group methods will be used. The main results and findings of the paper are: the role of municipalities in promoting well-being is increasing contrary to the role of national or regional authorities, due to the autonomous functions of local authorities, intensive informative links and a wide range of available economic and social instruments.

Towards Natural Engagement in Nonexhibitional Dramatic Role-Plays

Modern language teaching and drama have long had a tenuous relationship. Foreign/second language teaching (F/SLT) and Language for Specific Purposes (LSP) instruction often mistakenly associate drama with learning games and role-play simulations. However, these remedial activities, though useful, offer only limited opportunities for natural speech interaction. This article argues that, as a natural dialogical process of cognitive and affective involvement, nonexhibitional dramatic role-play generates authentic meaning through action and personal commitment.

A person-oriented approach to maternal homework involvement during the transition to lower secondary school

This study examined patterns of mothers' homework involvement (n = 680 in Grade 6 and 665 in Grade 7) and changes in them during 12-year-old Finnish adolescents' (n = 848; 391 boys) transition to lower secondary school. Moreover, the extent to which adolescents' motivational behavior and prior academic achievement predicted these patterns was examined. The latent transition analyses identified four relatively stable latent patterns of maternal homework involvement in Grades 6 and 7: averagely involved, psychologically controlling and intrusive, noninvolved, and intrusive monitoring and helping. The study examines the extent to which the relationship between home and school affects students’ academic achievements. A senior secondary school in The Gambia was chosen for this study. The focus of the research was to identify and describe intentionally designed programs and practices that foster the involvement of home in school activities and its important outcomes for the stakeholders (home and school).
