Anne d’Alençon y Margherita Paleologo: Mujeres gobernantes entre la esfera pública y la privada. / Anne d’Alençon and MargheritaPaleologo: governing …

2014

An Unexplained Congenital Disorder of Glycosylation-II in a Child with Neurohepatic Involvement, Hypercholesterolemia and Hypoceruloplasminemia

2017

We report on a 12-year-old adopted boy with psychomotor disability, absence seizures, and normal brain MRI. He showed increased (but initially, at 5 months, normal) serum cholesterol, increased alkaline phosphatases, transiently increased transaminases and hypoceruloplasminemia with normal serum and urinary copper. Blood levels of immunoglobulins, haptoglobin, antithrombin, and factor XI were normal. A type 2 serum transferrin isoelectrofocusing and hypoglycosylation of apoCIII pointed to a combined N- and O-glycosylation defect. Neither CDG panel analysis with 79 CDG-related genes, nor whole exome sequencing revealed the cause of this CDG. Whole genome sequencing was not performed since th…

Post-translational modifications in the survival motor neuron protein

2004

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal recessive disease characterized by a progressive loss of the spinal motoneurons. The SMA-determining gene has been termed survival motor neuron (SMN) and is deleted or mutated in over 98% of patients. The encoded gene product is a protein expressed as different isoforms. In particular, we showed that the rat SMN cDNA produces two isoforms with Mr of 32 and 35 kDa, both localized in nuclear coiled bodies, but the 32 kDa form is also cytoplasmic, whereas the 35 kDa form is also microsomal. To determine the molecular relationship between these two isoforms and potential post-translational modifications, we performed transfection experiments with a …

Genome-wide meta-analysis identifies six novel loci associated with habitual coffee consumption

2015

Contains fulltext : 155360.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) Coffee, a major dietary source of caffeine, is among the most widely consumed beverages in the world and has received considerable attention regarding health risks and benefits. We conducted a genome-wide (GW) meta-analysis of predominately regular-type coffee consumption (cups per day) among up to 91,462 coffee consumers of European ancestry with top single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) followed-up in ~30 062 and 7964 coffee consumers of European and African-American ancestry, respectively. Studies from both stages were combined in a trans-ethnic meta-analysis. Confirmed loci were examined for putative functional and b…

Stereotypes in Persuasive Communication: Influence Exerted by a Disapproved Source

2004

The present paper examines how someone's use of stereotypes can exert influence over others’ judgments. In the 2 studies reported here, participants were presented with messages containing information provided by a source. In Study 1, the source was an in-group member. The messages were manipulated in a between-subjects design so that participants were either given stereotypical or counterstereotypical information. After being given a hint regarding the source's estimate, participants were asked to provide their own estimates about a number of points displayed on a computer screen. Results indicate that participants tended to use as an anchor the estimate provided by the source that made us…

Extranodal extension of nodal metastasis is the main prognostic moderator in squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus after neoadjuvant chemoradiothe…

2017

Several studies, including comprehensive systematic reviews with meta-analyses of our group of research, have demonstrated the negative prognostic impact of the extranodal extension of nodal metastasis (ENE) in different cancer types, including squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the vulva, of the penis and of head and neck, as well as in tumors of the digestive and genitourinary systems, in thyroid cancer and others (1-17).

Reframing health care through social media

2015

This teaching case presents the story of the Hospital Campus (HC) project and its effort to reframe health-care services for the elderly through the adoption of social media. In a world of global ageing, in which an increased number of elderly patients will be cared for by a shrinking number of workers, a primary challenge is how to use technology to provide better and more efficient services for the elderly. The HC campus project focuses on how to involve information technology-illiterate elderly patients and their social networks in the design and use of social media services to improve their quality of life. In describing the development of the project, we focus on the elderly patients’…

"Phonebloks, or a phone developed by its future users" : user experiences of a forum for a modular phone concept

2016

In late 2013, a project caught my attention as being interesting to me and potentially a lot of others, innovative, and environmentally friendly: a smartphone project called Phonebloks. This timing fitting perfectly with the start of my Master's thesis as well as my personal interests, I observed it to see how it would develop. The official website which was created let users debate in order to decide where this Phonebloks project should go, so I decided to focus my efforts on it. This thesis describes perceptions of users regarding an online forum about a new kind of phone, called Phonebloks. On this forum they can debate about the future of the phone. I based my analysis on research on fo…

Importance of mitochondrial dynamin-related protein 1 in hypothalamic glucose sensitivity in rats.

2012

International audience; AIMS: Hypothalamic mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mROS)-mediated signaling has been recently shown to be involved in the regulation of energy homeostasis. However, the upstream signals that control this mechanism have not yet been determined. Here, we hypothesize that glucose-induced mitochondrial fission plays a significant role in mROS-dependent hypothalamic glucose sensing. RESULTS: Glucose-triggered translocation of the fission protein dynamin-related protein 1 (DRP1) to mitochondria was first investigated in vivo in hypothalamus. Thus, we show that intracarotid glucose injection induces the recruitment of DRP1 to VMH mitochondria in vivo. Then, expressio…
