Long Non-coding Antisense RNA TNRC6C-AS1 Is Activated in Papillary Thyroid Cancer and Promotes Cancer Progression by Suppressing TNRC6C Expression
2018
Context: Evidences have shown the important role of long non-coding antisense RNAs in regulating its cognate sense gene in cancer biology. Objective: Investigate the regulatory role of a long non-coding antisense RNA TNRC6C-AS1 on its sense partner TNRC6C, and their effects on the aggressiveness and iodine-uptake ability of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). Design: TNRC6C-AS1 was identified as the target long non-coding RNA in PTC by using microarray analysis and computational analysis. In vitro gain/loss-of-function experiments were performed to investigate the effects of TNRC6C-AS1 and TNRC6C on proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasion and iodine-uptake ability of TPC1 cells. Transient hypothyroidism during lactation alters the development of the corpus callosum in rats. An in vivo magnetic resonance image and electron mic…
2020
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data of children with late diagnosed congenital hypothyroidism and cognitive alterations such as abnormal verbal memory processing suggest altered telencephalic commissural connections. The corpus callosum (CC) is the major inter-hemispheric commissure that contra-laterally connects neocortical areas. However, in late diagnosed neonates with congenital hypothyroidism, the possible effect of early transient and chronic postnatal hypothyroidism still remains unknown. We have studied the development of the anterior, middle and posterior CC, using in vivo MRI and electron microscopy in hypothyroid and control male rats. Four groups of methimazole (MMI) treated r…
Outcome of Patients With Differentiated Thyroid Cancer Treated With 131-Iodine on the Basis of a Detectable Serum Thyroglobulin Level After Initial T…
2019
Background: In patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) and raising serum thyroglobulin (Tg) after total or near-total thyroidectomy and 131I remnant ablation an empiric 131I therapy may be considered. However, outcome data after empiric therapy in did not show a clear evidence of improved survival. We assessed the efficacy of such empiric 131I therapy in patients with DTC and evaluated the long-term outcome. Methods: A total of 100 patients with DTC showing raised Tg level during follow-up after thyroidectomy and 131I ablation were treated with a further 131I therapy (6.1 ± 1.7 GBq). Whole-body scan (WBS) was performed 5–7 days after therapy. Tg value at 12 months after 131I therap…
Synthesis of a Tetraazido-Substituted 2-Tetrazene from 1,5-Cyclooctadiene and Iodine Azide
1997
In contrast to the addition of iodine azide to cyclooctene (1) or 1,3-cyclooctadiene (5), its reaction with 1,5-cyclooctadiene (12) leads mainly to the surprisingly stable tetraazido-substituted 2-tetrazene 14 The structure of this was established by 15N-NMR studies and an X-ray structural analysis. Treatment of 14 with hydrochloric acid yields the diazido-substituted 9-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane 20.
Toxic adenoma and papillary thyroid carcinoma in a patient with Graves' disease.
1999
A case of a very rare association of toxic adenoma and papillary carcinoma with Graves’ disease is presented. A 34-year-old woman developed Graves’ disease with mild ophthalmopathy. An ultrasound revealed diffuse thyroid enlargement with a hypoechoic pattern and a hypoechoic nodule with regular edges of 1.6 cm in diameter at the lower pole of the left lobe. A thyroid 131I scintiscan showed a diffuse and homogeneous 131I distribution. The 131I uptake (RAIU) was elevated. One year later, while still on a low dose of methimazole, the patient had a recurrence of hyperthyroidism following an iodine load from a contrast agent. A further thyroid ultrasound confirmed the previously described patter…
IGF-I, IgA, and IgG responses to bovine colostrum supplementation during training.
2002
This study examined the effect of bovine colostrum (Dynamic colostrum) supplementation on blood and saliva variables ( study 1) and the absorption of orally administered human recombinant insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I (rhIGF-I) labeled with 123I (123I-rhIGF-I) ( study 2). In study 1, adult male and female athletes were randomly assigned in a double-blind fashion to either an experimental (Dynamic; n = 19) or a control (Placebo; n = 11) group. The former consumed daily 20 g of Dynamic supplement, and the latter 20 g of maltodextrin during a 2-wk training period. After bovine colostrum supplementation, significant increases were noticed in serum IGF-I ( P < 0.01) and saliva IgA ( P &…
The EORTC module for quality of life in patients with thyroid cancer: phase III
2017
The purpose of the study was to pilot-test a questionnaire measuring health-related quality of life (QoL) in thyroid cancer patients to be used with the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) core questionnaire EORTC QLQ-C30. A provisional questionnaire with 47 items was administered to patients treated for thyroid cancer within the last 2 years. Patients were interviewed about time and help needed to complete the questionnaire, and whether they found the items understandable, confusing or annoying. Items were kept in the questionnaire if they fulfilled pre-defined criteria: relevant to the patients, easy to understand, not confusing, few missing values, neither …
High Iodine Concentration Contrast Material for Noninvasive Multislice Computed Tomography Coronary Angiography
2006
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to compare intracoronary attenuation on 16-row multislice computed tomography (16-MSCT) coronary angiography using 2 contrast materials (CM) with high iodine concentration. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Forty consecutive patients (29 male, 11 female; mean age, 61 ± 11 years) with suspected coronary artery disease were randomized to 2 groups to receive 100 mL of either iopromide 370 (group 1: Ultravist 370, 370 mg iodine/mL; Schering AG, Berlin, Germany) or iomeprol 400 (group 2: Iomeron 400, 400 mg iodine/mL; Bracco Imaging SpA, Milan, Italy). Both CM were administered at a rate of 4 mL/s. All patients underwent 16-MSCT coronary angiography (Sensation 16; …
Dual-Energy CT Material Density Iodine Quantification for Distinguishing Vascular From Nonvascular Renal Lesions: Normalization Reduces Intermanufact…
2019
OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to determine whether a single, uniform normalized iodine threshold reduces variability and enables reliable differentiation between vascular and nonvascular renal lesions independent of the dual-energy CT (DECT) platform used. MATERIALS AND METHODS. In this retrospective, HIPAA-compliant, institutional review board-approved study, 247 patients (156 men, 91 women; mean age ± SD, 67 ± 12 years old) with 263 renal lesions (193 nonvascular, 70 vascular) underwent unenhanced single- energy and contrast-enhanced DECT scans. One hundred and six nonvascular and 38 vascular lesions were scanned on two dual-source DECT (dsDECT) scanners, and 87 nonvascular and…
Topical Antibiotic, Antifungal, and Antiseptic Solutions Decrease Ciliary Activity in Nasal Respiratory Cells
2002
This study was designed to investigate whether topical solutions, as they are used in the treatment of selected cases of rhinosinusitis, influence nasal mucociliary clearance. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the following topical solutions on the ciliary beat frequency (CBF) of nasal respiratory cells: ofloxacin as an antibiotic; Betadine and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as antiseptic; and amphotericin B, itraconazole, and clotrimazole as antifungal solutions. Differences are described between effects of each of these substances and we clarify whether ciliotoxic effects are dose dependent and if they can be reduced or eliminated by diluting the concentration of the a…
