Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibria for extractive distillation of 1-propanol + water mixture using thiocyanate-based ionic liquids

Abstract This paper presents vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data at 101.3 kPa for the ternary systems 1-propanol + water + 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium thiocyanate [emim][SCN] and 1-propanol + water + 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium thiocyanate [bmim][SCN] and their constituents binary systems. The experimental data obtained were correlated using the NRTL, eNRTL and UNIQUAC models. It was found that the addition of these ionic liquids enhance the relative volatility of 1-propanol to water, and the separation ability follows the order of [emim][SCN] > [bmim][SCN]. Multilayered supported ionic liquids as catalysts for chemical fixation of carbon dioxide

Multilayered, covalently supported ionic liquid phase (mlc-SILP) materials were synthesized by using a new approach based on the grafting of bis-vinylimidazolium salts on different types of silica or polymeric supports. The obtained materials were characterized and tested as catalysts in the reaction of supercritical carbon dioxide with various epoxides to produce cyclic carbonates. Over the past few years, interest has increased regarding the application of ionic liquids (ILs) as extraction solvents for separating azeotropic mixtures. Following this trend, this work presents the experimental data of liquid–liquid equilibria (LLE) of the system envolving water, ethanol, and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmim][PF6]) at different temperatures. Synthesis and high-throughput testing of multilayered supported ionic liquid catalysts for the conversion of CO2 and epoxides into cyclic carbonates

Thermodiffusion anisotropy under a magnetic field in ionic liquid-based ferrofluids

International audience; Ferrofluids based on maghemite nanoparticles (NPs), typically 10 nm in diameter, are dispersed in an ionic liquid (1-ethyl 3-methylimidazolium bistriflimide - EMIM-TFSI). The average interparticle interaction is found to be repulsive by small angle scattering of X-rays and of neutrons, with a second virial coefficient A2 = 7.3. A moderately concentrated sample at Φ = 5.95 vol% is probed by forced Rayleigh scattering under an applied magnetic field (up to H = 100 kA m-1) from room temperature up to T = 460 K. Task-specific ionic liquid for the depolymerisation of starch-based industrial waste into high reducing sugars

Development of a simple route for the catalytic conversion of starch-based industrial waste (potato peels) and potato starch into reducing sugars was investigated in two ionic liquids for comparison – 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride [AMIM]Cl and 1-(4-sulfobutyl)-3-methylimidazolium chloride [SBMIM]Cl. Supported ionic liquid asymmetric cathalysis. A new method for chiral catalyst recycling

A new method for chiral catalysts recycling, based on the supported ionic liquid asymmetric catalysis concept, has been developed. This concept involves the treatment of a monolayer of covalently attached ionic liquid on the surface of silica gel with additional ionic liquid. These layers serve as the reaction phase in which the homogeneous chiral catalyst is dissolved. As first application of this concept the L-proline-catalyzed aldol reaction has been carried out. Good yields and ee values, comparable with those obtained under homogeneous conditions have been obtained. Moreover, this material shows high regenerability.

Antimicrobial and antioxidant supramolecular ionic liquid gels from biopolymer mixtures

In this work, we describe the preparation and characterization of supramolecular ionic liquid gels based on binary mixtures of biopolymers, comprising chitosan, chitin, cellulose and lignin. The gels were obtained in ionic liquids differing in the cation or the anion, with no need for a cross-linking agent or acid treatment. The materials obtained were characterized for the minimum gelation concentration, porosity, swelling and rheological properties, finding a prominent influence of the nature of the ionic liquid anion.
