Two-color ionization of hydrogen by short intense pulses

Photoelectron energy spectra resulting by the interaction of hydrogen with two short pulses having carrier frequencies, respectively, in the range of the infrared and XUV regions have been calculated. The effects of the pulse duration and timing of the X-ray pulse on the photoelectron energy spectra are discussed. Analysis of the spectra obtained for very long pulses show that certain features may be explained in terms of quantum interferences in the time domain. It is found that, depending on the duration of the X-ray pulse, ripples in the energy spectra separated by the infrared photon energy may appear. Delayed-neutron spectroscopy with 3He spectrometers

Abstract The characteristics of a 3 He ionization chamber for high-resolution spectroscopy of β-delayed neutrons have been examined. The detector response function is given in the energy range 0.019–2.77 MeV. A considerably improved energy resolution has been achieved by minimizing effects due to pulse summing, detection of scattered neutrons, and microphonics, and is most evident in the low-energy part of the spectra.
Lineshapes and optical selectivity in high-resolution double-resonance ionization mass spectrometry

Abstract Lineshapes expected in high-resolution double-resonance ionization spectroscopy are calculated using the density matrix formalism, integrated over experimentally realistic conditions including atomic velocity and angular distributions as well as laser intensity profiles. The results of these calculations are compared with experimental measurements on the system 4s2 1S0 → 4s4p 1P1 → 4s4d 1D1 → ion for calcium. The measurements of lineshape, with a dynamic range of >106, reveal and confirm subtle effects predicted by theory. High-resolution laser system for the S3-Low Energy Branch

International audience; In this paper we present the first high-resolution laser spectroscopy results obtained at the GISELE laser laboratory of the GANIL-SPIRAL2 facility, in preparation for the first experiments with the S$^3$-Low Energy Branch. Studies of neutron-deficient radioactive isotopes of erbium and tin represent the first physics cases to be studied at S$^3$. The measured isotope-shift and hyperfine structure data are presented for stable isotopes of these elements. Purpose The present study reports for the first time a large-scale proteomic screening of the occurrence, subcellular localization and relative quantification of the S100A7 protein among a group of 100 patients, clinically grouped for the diagnosis of infiltrating ductal carcinoma (IDC). The gas-phase chemiionization reaction between samarium and oxygen atoms: A theoretical study

The Sm + O chemiionization reaction has been investigated theoretically using a method that allows for correlation and relativistic effects. Potential energy curves have been calculated for several electronic states of SmO and SmO+. Comparison with available spectroscopic and thermodynamic values for these species is reported and a mechanism for the chemiionization reaction Sm + O is proposed. The importance of spin–orbit coupling in the excited states of SmO, in allowing this chemiionization reaction to take place, has been revealed by these calculations. This paper shows the metal-plus-oxidant chemiionization reaction.

The skeleton of siliceous sponges consists of amorphous biogenous silica (biosilica). Biosilica formation is driven enzymatically by means of silicatein(s). During this unique process of enzymatic polycondensation, skeletal elements (spicules) that enfold a central proteinaceous structure (axial filament), mainly comprising silicatein, are formed. Electron Angular Distribution in Laser-Assisted X-ray Photoeffect

Calculations are reported of the differential cross section of the laser-assisted X-ray photoeffect from K shells showing that drastic changes occur in the shape of the ejected-electron angular distribution when laser photons are exchanged during the ionisation. This process appears well suited to the study of laser effects and multiphoton exchanges in laser-assisted atomic collisions.

Ionization and scintillation response of high-pressure xenon gas to alpha particles

High-pressure xenon gas is an attractive detection medium for a variety of applications in fundamental and applied physics. In this paper we study the ionization and scintillation detection properties of xenon gas at 10 bar pressure. For this purpose, we use a source of alpha particles in the NEXT-DEMO time projection chamber, the large scale prototype of the NEXT-100 neutrinoless double beta decay experiment, in three different drift electric field configurations.
