Evaporation of tungsten oxides: A mass-spectrometric study of the vapour contents
1995
Abstract The evaporation of bulk oxides of WO2 and WO3 and oxidised tungsten surfaces (metallic tungsten heated in an oxygen atmosphere) have been studied by the means of mass-spectrometry. The principal constituents of the vapour are found to be molecules of WO2, WO3, W2O6 and W3O9. These results differ from earlier reports, where the presence of molecules smaller than W3O9 in the mass-spectrum was interpreted as an artifact due to electron impact dissociation of larger polymers.
Synthesis, characterization, cytotoxic activity and crystal structures of tri- and di-organotin(IV) complexes constructed from the β-{[(E)-1-(2-hydro…
2006
Abstract Reactions of potassium β-{[(E)-1-(2-hydroxyaryl)alkylidene]amino}propionates (L1HK-L3HK) and potassium β-{[(2Z)-(3-hydroxy-1-methyl-2- butenylidene)]amino}propionate (L4HK) with R3SnCl (R = Ph and nBu) and nBu2SnCl2 yielded complexes of composition Ph3SnL1H (1), Ph3SnL2H (2), Ph3SnL4H (3), nBu3SnL1H (4), and {[nBu2Sn(L2H)]2O}2 (5) and {[nBu2Sn(L3H)]2O}2 (6), respectively. These complexes have been characterized by 1H, 13C, 119Sn NMR, ESI-MS, IR and 119mSn Mossbauer spectroscopic techniques in combination with elemental analyses. The crystal structures of 1, 4, 5 and 6 were determined. In the solid state, compound 1 is a one-dimensional polymer built from SnPh3 moieties bridged by s…
Occurrence of glycine in the core oligosaccharides of Hafnia alvei lipopolysaccharides--identification of disubstituted glycoform.
2015
Endotoxins (lipopolysaccharides, LPS) are the main surface antigens and virulence factors of Gram-negative bacteria involved for example in the development of nosocomial infections and sepsis. They consist of three main regions: O-specific polysaccharide, core oligosaccharide, and lipid A. Bacteria modify LPS structure to escape the immune defence, but also to adapt to environmental conditions. LPS's structures are highly diversified in the O-specific polysaccharide region to evade bactericidal factors of immune system, but retain some common epitopes that are potential candidates for therapeutic strategies against bacterial infections. Common occurrence of glycine within the structure of L…
Quantitative analysis of broad molecular weight distributions obtained by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionisation-time-of-flight mass spectrometry
1996
In order to quantify the error of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionisation (MALDI) time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry in the determination of broad molecular weight distributions, different mixtures by weight of two poly(methyl methacrylate) standards were prepared. These mixtures, with well-defined bimodal molecular weight distributions were analysed by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry using different matrices (2,4,6-trihydroxyacetophenone and 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid) and different cations (Li+, Na+, K+, Rb+ and Cs+) for doping the analyte. From the MALDI-TOF mass spectrometric data, the weight fractions of the two polymers of all mixtures were determined and compared to the values mea…
Identification of the reaction products of (2'-5')oligoadenylate synthetase in the marine sponge.
1998
Previously we reported on the presence of a high (2'-5')oligoadenylate synthetase activity in the marine sponge Geodia cydonium [Kuusksalu, A., Pihlak, A., Muller, W. E. G. & Kelve, M. (1995) Eur. J. Biochem. 232, 351-357]. The presence of (2'-5')oligoadenylates [(2'-5')A] in crude sponge extract was shown by radioimmunoassay and by their HPLC comigration with authentic (2'-5')A oligomers. In addition, the sponge (2'-5')oligoadenylates displayed biological activity, as determined by inhibition studies of protein biosynthesis in rabbit reticulocyte lysate. In the present study individual (2'-5')oligoadenylates synthesized by sponge enzyme were separated by HPLC. The exact composition of ever…
Electrospray ion mobility mass spectrometry of positively charged sodium bis[2-ethythexyl)sulfosuccinate aggregates.
2014
Collision cross-sections (CCS) of positively singly and multiply charged aggregates of the surfactant sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOTNa) in the gas phase have been measured by quadrupole ion mobility time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Calibration of the observed drift times to the CCS of the AOTNa non-covalent aggregates was achieved by collecting, under the same experimental conditions, the drift times of a range of singly and multiply charged polyalanine peptides whose CCS had been obtained by conventional ion mobility spectrometry. Together with an obvious increase of the aggregate cross-section with the aggregation number, it was found that the aggregate cross-section increa…
Study on the synthesis of novel 5-substituted 2-[2-(pyridyl)ethenyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazoles and their acid–base interactions
2014
Abstract A series of novel 5-substituted 2-[2-(pyridyl)ethenyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazoles were efficiently synthesized by cyclocondensation of the appropriate 3-(pyridyl)acrylohydrazides with triethyl orthoesters in the presence of glacial acetic acid. The products were identified by means of spectroscopic methods and their pKA ionization constants were determined. The influence of substituents on the basicity of the pyridine system has been discussed. Graphical Abstract
Contact sites of peptide-oligoribonucleotide cross-links identified by a combination of peptide and nucleotide sequencing with MALDI MS.
1997
We have investigated peptide–oligoribonucleotide complexes isolated from cross-linked Escherichia coli 30S ribosomal subunits in order to identify the contact sites of these complexes at the molecular level. For this purpose, reversed-phase (RP) HPLC-purified peptide–oligoribonucleotide complexes were submitted to N-terminal amino acid sequencing in order to determine the cross-linked peptide moiety and were analyzed using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) for calculation of the nucleotide composition of the cross-linked complex. Subsequently, for nucleotide sequence information the complexes were partially hydrolyzed or treated with exonucleases and a…
Rapid characterization of alkylpolyphosphonates by CZE with indirect photometric and mass spectrometric detection.
2006
Methods for the rapid characterization of industrial alkylpolyphosphonates (APPs) by infusion MS and CZE with indirect photometric (IPD) and MS detection are described. Technical-grade APPs, including alkylaminepolyphosphonates with 3-5 phosphonate groups and different hydrocarbon skeletons, hydroxyethyl-amino-bis(methylenephosphonic acid), hydroxyethylidene-diphosphonic acid, and 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid, were examined. A 10 mM solution of adenosine triphosphate disodium salt at pH 2.2 was used as BGE. The nominal compounds of the industrial APPs and their impurities were well resolved in less than 15 min. The peaks were identified by using extracted ion electropherograms…
On the determination of underivatised fatty alcohol ethoxylates by electrospray ionisation–mass spectrometry
2006
Abstract The oligomers of fatty alcohol ethoxylates (FAEs) exhibit large sensitivity differences in mass spectrometry with electrospray ionisation (ESI–MS) and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI). Standards of the oligomers from m = 1 to 7 ethylene oxide units (EOs) and linear alkyl chains from n = 10 to 18 carbon atoms were infused to examine the relative sensitivities or response factors in several media. The response factors of the [M + H]+ and [M + Na]+ peaks in 9:1 acetonitrile/water and methanol/water media containing acid buffers increased following irregular patterns when n and m increased. In methanol/water the response factors depended on the parity of m, being larger …
