Una grottesca «fantocciata»:dissonanze pirandelliane nella scrittura di Laura Di Falco

2019

A grotesque "puppet": Pirandello's dissonances in the writing of Laura Di Falco Laura Di Falco's novel, Le tre mogli (The Three Wives), published by Rizzoli in 1967, sinks in to the Sicilian literary tradition which, as Natale Tedesco writes, condenses the investigation of disturbances of the conscience and of epochal disturbances into the "essayistic-reflexive" figure, of which Luigi Pirandello proves to be an exemplary interpreter. The fiction leaks in the capillary fabric of social, institutional and affective relationships of a world that the narrative shows in the form of a grotesque "puppet", corroding its conventions from inside, alienating its features and dramatising its contradict…

The oxidation of alkanes with dimethyldioxirane; a new mechanistic insight

1997

Abstract Primary kinetic isotope effects were measured for the oxidation of cyclohexane and methylcyclohexane with DMDO in solution and in the gas phase. These experiments suggest an electrophilic oxygen insertion mechanism for the oxidation of alkanes by DMDO.

High frequency of BRAF V600E mutation in Iranian population ameloblastomas

2020

Background Ameloblastoma is a common locally invasive but slow-growing neoplasm of the jaws with an odontogenic origin. Association between BRAF V600E mutation and clinicopathologic features and behavior of ameloblastoma remains controversial. This study aimed to evaluate BRAF V600E gene mutation and expression of its related proteins with clinicopathologic parameters in conventional ameloblastoma. Material and Methods 50 Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded blocks were included in this study. Immunohistochemistry was done using rabbit monoclonal BRAF V600E mutation-specific antibody VE1. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction assay was used for evaluating of BRAF V600E mutation. Resu…

Using an integrated social cognition model to predict COVID‐19 preventive behaviours

2020

ObjectivesRates of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections have rapidly increased worldwide and reached pandemic proportions. A suite of preventive behaviours have been recommended to minimize risk of COVID-19 infection in the general population. The present study utilized an integrated social cognition model to explain COVID-19 preventive behaviours in a sample from the Iranian general population.DesignThe study adopted a three-wave prospective correlational design.MethodsMembers of the general public (N = 1,718, Mage = 33.34, SD = 15.77, male = 796, female = 922) agreed to participate in the study. Participants completed self-report measures of demographic characteristics, i…

Poisoning histories in the Italian renaissance: The case of Pico Della Mirandola and Angelo Poliziano.

2018

Giovanni Pico della Mirandola and Angelo Poliziano were two of the most important humanists of the Italian Renaissance. They died suddenly in 1494 and their deaths have been for centuries a subject of debate. The exhumation of their remains offered the opportunity to study the cause of their death through a multidisciplinary research project. Anthropological analyses, together with documentary evidences, radiocarbon dating and ancient DNA analysis supported the identification of the remains attributed to Pico. Macroscopic examination did not reveal paleopathological lesions or signs related to syphilis. Heavy metals analysis, carried out on bones and mummified tissues, showed that in Pico's…

Oxygenation of Alkane C−H Bonds with Methyl(trifluoromethyl)dioxirane:  Effect of the Substituents and the Solvent on the Reaction Rate

2005

[Chemical reaction: See text] The mechanism of the oxygenation of alkane C-H bonds with methyl(trifluoromethyl)dioxirane (1a) is studied through the effect of the substituent and solvent on the rate of oxygenation of 2-substituted adamantanes (2). The results suggest a remarkable electron deficiency at the reacting carbon atom in the transition state leading to the regular oxygenation products. The linearity of the Hammett plot reveals that the reaction mechanism does not change within a range of 0.15-0.67 units of sigma(I). A change in the solvent does not affect the distribution of the products, indicating a through-bond transmission of the substituent effect as the origin of the deactiva…
