This doctoral thesis is part of a process of understanding the management of institutions practicing Islamic finance. It focuses on Islamic banks and studies their performance through some determinants offered by banking literature. The idea is to reflect on the sustainable determinants that could, on the one hand, help to better explain Islamic banking performance, and on the other hand, compare the relationships that might exist between these determinants and the different measures of banking performance (conventional and Islamic). Tämän pro gradu tutkielman tarkoituksena on tarkastella turkkilaisen imaamin, Muhammed Fethullah Gülenin poliittista ideologiaa, hänen ympärilleen muodostunutta sosiaalista Gülen-liikettä eli hizmet-palveluliikettä ja näiden kahden asemaa Turkin politiikassa. Lisäksi pohditaan uskonnon ja sekulaarin taistelua, uskonnon merkitystä politiikassa ja erityisesti Turkissa. Työssä pyritään avaamaan myös Gülen-liikkeen tavoitteita ja pyrkimyksiä. Päähahmo on kuitenkin vapaaehtoisesti Yhdysvalloissa maanpaossa elävä uskonnollinen johtaja, imaami Gülen. The present article deals with the perception of «the oriental», a relevant topic nowadays, especially after the events of 11 September 2001, where Pandora's Case burst open with a negative vision of Muslim society. We will thus deal with the perception of the hammam, a Spanish geographical item, focusing our research in the Admiral´s Bath of Valencia, which have mistakenly been identified as Islamic and are, actually, Christian in origin.

ABSTRACT:In March 1447, a great fire broke out in Valencia, caused by a former member of the municipal government. This fire destroyed many houses and craft workshops around the Market Square, the economic centre of the city. The municipal government had to compensate the citizens, who had lost everything, and restore everyday life in the area. A versatile Italian watchmaker living in Valencia was chosen to supervise the rehabilitation of the area. Under his direction, the debris was removed. Then after a conscious campaign of urban planning aimed at eliminating any traces of the old Islamic city, the streets were reconstructed according to the norms of the western city.

La figura del carnero destaca de forma significativa dentro del simbolismo animalístico en el cristianismo. El presente artículo se centra en el estudio diacrónico de las representaciones de dicho animal insertas dentro del tipo iconográfico del Sacrificio de Isaac, cuya fuente literaria es el Génesis 22. AbstractThe Horta of Valencia is a large irrigated area managed by eight communities of landowners. Traditionally, it was considered that these communities were composed of peasants, that they were self-managed and self-governed, and that they had remained immutable over time. However, the historical evidence shows that this is not true for pre-modern times. This article examines a possible Islamic origin of these institutions, the rupture caused by the Christian conquest of Valencia in the thirteenth century, the structure of the communities, and the social diversity of their members within the framework of feudalism.
