Optimization of a laser ion source for $^{163}$Ho isotope separation
2019
To measure the mass of the electron neutrino, the “Electron Capture in Holmium-163” (ECHo) collaboration aims at calorimetrically measuring the spectrum following electron capture in 163Ho. The success of the ECHo experiment depends critically on the radiochemical purity of the 163Ho sample, which is ion-implanted into the calorimeters. For this, a 30 kV high transmission magnetic mass separator equipped with a resonance ionization laser ion source is used. To meet the ECHo requirements, the ion source unit was optimized with respect to its thermal characteristics and material composition by means of the finite element method thermal-electric calculations and chemical equilibrium simulation…
Impact of the interplay of piezoelectric strain and current-induced heating on the field-like spin–orbit torque in perpendicularly magnetized Ta/Co20…
2021
Spin–orbit torques (SOTs) are known to be the most efficient way to manipulate the magnetization direction by electrical currents. While, conventionally, one symmetry component of the SOTs, namely, the damping-like torque, was considered to play a primary role, recently, the significance of the other component, the field-like torque, has been revised, owing to the non-trivial dynamics it can induce in heavy metal/ferromagnet multilayers. In this work, we first discuss the unusual behavior of the field-like SOT in a Ta/CoFeB/Ta/MgO multilayer system with a reduced magnetic anisotropy and demonstrate an energy-efficient approach to manipulate the magnitude of the SOT effective fields. Finally…
Enhancing domain wall velocity through interface intermixing in W-CoFeB-MgO films with perpendicular anisotropy
2019
We study the influence of He+ irradiation induced interface intermixing on magnetic domain wall (DW) dynamics in W-CoFeB (0.6 nm)-MgO ultrathin films, which exhibit high perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and large Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) values. Whereas the pristine films exhibit strong DW pinning, we observe a large increase in the DW velocity in the creep regime upon He+ irradiation, which is attributed to the reduction of pinning centers induced by interface intermixing. Asymmetric in-plane field-driven domain expansion experiments show that the DMI value is slightly reduced upon irradiation, and a direct relationship between DMI and interface anisotropy is demonstrated. …
High-frequency EPR study on Cu4Cu- and Co4Co-metallacrown complexes
2019
Abstract High-frequency/high-field electron paramagnetic resonance studies on two homonuclear 12-MC-4 metallacrown complexes Cu4Cu and Co4Co are presented. For Cu4Cu, our data imply axial-type g-anisotropy with g x = 2.03 ± 0.01 , g y = 2.04 ± 0.01 , and g z = 2.23 ± 0.01 , yielding g = 2.10 ± 0.02 . No significant zero field splitting (ZFS) of the ground state mode is observed. In Co4Co, we find a m S = ± 3 / 2 ground state with g = 2.66 . The data suggest large anisotropy D of negative sign.
Unusual domain-wall motion in ferromagnetic semiconductor films with tetragonal anisotropy
2009
International audience; Magnetic field-driven domain-wall propagation in the flow regime is investigated in (Ga, Mn) As ferromagnetic semiconductor layers. Square-shape magnetic domains with an unexpected orientation of their edges, at pi/8 with respect to the anisotropy axes, are found. This is shown to arise from the effect of tetragonal magnetic anisotropy on domain-wall dynamics. Using a one-dimensional model for domain-wall motion and modeling domain growth by contour dynamics the shape and orientation of domains and their field range for existence are well reproduced. These results point to the key role of the vectorial nature of the order parameter in the dynamics of ferromagnetic do…
Piezo-electrical control of gyration dynamics of magnetic vortices
2019
In this work, we first statically image the electrically controlled magnetostatic configuration of magnetic vortex states and then we dynamically image the time-resolved vortex core gyration tuned by electric fields. We demonstrate the manipulation of the vortex core gyration orbit by engineering the magnetic anisotropies. We achieve this by electric fields in a synthetic heterostructure consisting of a piezoelement coupled with magnetostrictive microstructures, where the magnetic anisotropy can be controlled by strain. We directly show the strong impact of the tailored anisotropy on the static shape of the vortex state and the dynamic vortex core orbit. The results demonstrate the possibil…

Estimating ion confinement times from beam current transients in conventional and charge breeder ECRIS
2019
International audience; Cumulative ion confinement times are probed by measuring decaying ion current transients in pulsed material injection mode. The method is applied in a charge breeder and conventional ECRIS yielding mutually corroborative results. The cumulative confinement time estimates vary from approximately 2 ms–60 ms with a clear dependence on the ion charge-to-mass ratio—higher charges having longer residence times. The long cumulative confinement times are proposed as a partial explanation to recently observed unexpectedly high ion temperatures. The results are relevant for rare ion beam (RIB) production as the confinement time and the lifetime of stable isotopes can be used f…
High-Resolution Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy and Analysis of the ν1 Stretching Band of GeD4
2007
The high-resolution stimulated Raman spectrum of the ν1 band of GeD4 with natural isotopic abundance germanium has been recorded. It has been analyzed as part of the ν1/ν3 stretching dyad. The ν1 and ν3 band centers have been deduced for all the isotopologues. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
Fourier-transform spectroscopy and deperturbation analysis of the spin-orbit coupled A(1)Σ(+) and b(3)Π states of KRb.
2016
Fourier-transform A(1)Σ(+) - b(3)Π → X(1)Σ(+) laser-induced fluorescence spectra were recorded for the natural mixture of (39,41)K(85,87)Rb isotopologues produced in a heatpipe oven. Overall 4200 rovibronic term values of the spin-orbit coupled A(1)Σ(+) and b(3)Π states were determined with an uncertainty of about 0.01 cm(-1) in the energy range [10 850, 14 200] cm(-1) covering rotational quantum numbers J' ∈ [3, 280]. Direct deperturbation analysis of the A ∼ b complex performed within the framework of the A(1)Σ(+) ∼ b(3)ΠΩ=0,1,2 coupled-channel approach reproduced experimental data with a standard deviation of 0.004 cm(-1). Initial parameters of the internuclear potentials and spin-orbit …
