Resonant laser–SNMS for spatially resolved and element selective ultra-trace analysis of radionuclides

2018

The newly developed resonant laser–SNMS system at the IRS Hannover combines the high spatial and decent mass resolution of a TOF-SIMS instrument with the element-selective process of resonant laser ionization. This setup was characterized by use of synthetic uranium, plutonium and technetium samples to prepare and demonstrate the performance for measurements on environmental samples. The laser–SNMS system will be applied for the detection, visualization and ultra-trace analysis of radionuclide containing nanoparticles in environmental samples with strongly reduced or even completely omitted chemical preparation. The necessary suppression of isobaric contamination was demonstrated as well as…

Explanation of Notation

1991

For the presentation of all 288 polarization observables in the next section we have adopted the following scheme. Each observable is a function of the angle and the photon energy. With respect to the latter we have chosen five energies, namely 4.5 MeV, the maximum of the total cross section, 20 MeV, 60 MeV, 100 MeV, and 140 MeV. For each observable and for each of these energies we have studied the following topics: (i) The influence of meson exchange currents (MEC), isobar configurations (IC) and relativistic corrections (RC). Since the various potential models give qualitatively very similar results, we use in this case the r-space version of the Bonn model (OBEPR). (ii) The contribution…

Spin–isospin excitations probed by strong, weak and electro-magnetic interactions

2011

Abstract Gamow–Teller (GT) transitions are the most common weak interaction processes of spin–isospin ( σ τ ) type in atomic nuclei. They are of interest not only in nuclear physics but also in astrophysics; they play an important role in supernovae explosions and nucleosynthesis. The direct study of weak decay processes, however, gives relatively limited information about GT transitions and the states excited via GT transitions (GT states); β decay can only access states at excitation energies lower than the decay Q -value, and neutrino-induced reactions have very small cross-sections. However, one should note that β decay has a direct access to the absolute GT transition strengths B (GT) …

Effect of pressure on the PVT behaviour of iPP as revealed by dilatometric measurements

2002

Isotactic Poly-propylene samples, previously prepared under known conditions of pressure and cooling rate by means of a special apparatus designed and set-up by the authors, were subjected to several isobaric runs at low cooling and heating rate in a confining fluid dilatometer (by GNOMIX). The effect of the previous thermo-mechanical histories and the effect of pressure in the dilatometry on specific volume of the samples was studied. Results show that the initial specific volume depends upon the previous thermo-mechanical histories, which however cancels out after the first heating run. Moreover the reported dilatometric experimental data support the evidence that an increase of pressure …

The distribution of velocities in an ensemble of accelerated particles on a surface

2016

An ensemble of particles diffusing with acceleration on a surface is considered as a 2D billiard system. The process of the finite-time diffusion of particles is studied using the balance equation. The probability distribution functions of the velocity and lifetime of particles are obtained analytically and by means of numerical simulations. A thermodynamic interpretation of the process is discussed. The effective temperature and entropy obey the relationship for an ideal gas.

Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibria for the extractive distillation of 2-propanol + water mixtures using 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide ionic l…

2017

Abstract Isobaric vapor–liquid equilibria for the binary systems 2-propanol + water, 2-propanol + 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide ([emim][DCA]), and water + [emim][DCA] as well as the vapor–liquid equilibria for the 2-propanol + water + [emim][DCA] ternary system have been obtained at 100 kPa using a recirculating still. The electrolyte nonrandom two-liquid (e-NRTL) model was used for fitting successfully the experimental data. The effect of [emim][DCA] on the 2-propanol + water system has been compared with that produced by other ionic liquids reported in the literature. From the results, [emim][DCA] appears as a good entrainer for the extractive distillation of this solvent mixtur…

Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibria for the 1-propanol + water + 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide system at 100 kPa

Isobaric vapor–liquid equilibria for 1-propanol+water+lithium nitrate at 100 kPa

2002

Abstract Isobaric vapor–liquid equilibria for the binary systems 1-propanol+lithium nitrate and water+lithium nitrate and the ternary system 1-propanol+water+lithium nitrate have been measured at 100 kPa using a recirculating still. The addition of lithium nitrate to the solvent mixture produced an important salting-out effect and the azeotrope tends to disappear when the salt content increases. The two experimental binary data sets were independently fitted with the electrolyte NRTL model and the parameters of Mock’s model were estimated for each binary system. These parameters were used to predict the ternary vapor–liquid equilibrium using the same model and the values so obtained agreed …

Isobaric Vapor−Liquid Equilibria for 1-Propanol + Water + 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium Trifluoromethanesulfonate at 100 kPa

2008

Isobaric vapor−liquid equilibria for the binary systems 1-propanol + water, 1-propanol + 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([emim][triflate]), and water + [emim][triflate] as well as the vapor−liquid equilibria for the 1-propanol + water + [emim][triflate] ternary system have been obtained at 100 kPa using a recirculating still. Electrolyte NRTL fitting parameters for the 1-propanol + water and water + [emim][triflate] systems were calculated. The measured ternary data were correlated using Mock’s electrolyte NRTL model which reproduces reasonably well the experimental values. The results show that the addition of [emim][triflate] to 1-propanol + water produced an import…

Isobaric vapor–liquid equilibria for 1-propanol + water + lithium chloride at 100 kPa

2004

Abstract Isobaric vapor–liquid equilibria for the ternary system 1-propanol+water+lithium chloride has been measured at 100 kPa using a recirculating still. The addition of lithium chloride to the solvent mixture produced an important salting-out effect over the alcohol and the azeotrope tended to be eliminated when the salt content increased, and two immiscible liquid phases were observed in a broad range of salt concentration. The experimental data sets were fitted with the electrolyte NRTL model and the parameters of Mock et al.’s model were estimated. This model has proved to be suitable to represent experimental data in the entire range of compositions. The effect of lithium chloride o…
