Conceptualizing and Measuring the Quality of Democracy: The Citizens' Perspective

In recent years, several measurements of the quality of democracy have been developed (e.g. Democracy Barometer, Varieties of Democracy Project). These objective measurements focus on institutional and procedural characteristics of democracy. This article starts from the premise that in order to fully understand the quality of democracy such objective measurements have to be complemented by subjective measurements based on the perspective of citizens. The aim of the article is to conceptualize and measure the subjective quality of democracy. Breast Cancer Patients' Fear of Treatment: Results from the Multicenter Longitudinal Study BRENDA II.

Background: Fear of cancer treatment can become overwhelming. It is important to understand what patients are mainly afraid of and what factors are correlated with intense fear of treatment. Methods: Patients with primary breast cancer (n = 761) completed questionnaires about fear of treatment before surgery (t1), and before (t2) and after (t3) adjuvant treatment. Psychological co-morbidity was assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire. Logistic regression identified predictors of intense fear of treatment. Dès la mise en service de la ligne TGV Sud-Est, au début des années 80, la Bourgogne a bénéficié de la création de deux nouvelles gares TGV, aménagées en périphérie des pôles urbains du Creusot et de Mâcon. Malgré leurs fonctions réduites, ces nouvelles gares périurbaines ont suscité d’ambitieux projets d’aménagement. De nouvelles zones d’activités ont ainsi vu le jour à proximité de ces gares.
