Zadovoljavanje osnovnih psiholoških potreba i autonomna motivacija u kontekstu škole: testiranje aditivne, sinergističke i hipoteze ravnoteže
2018
The present study examined the influence of the three basic psychological needs on autonomous motivation in educational settings in the light of additive, synergistic, and balance hypotheses. Participants were 679 high school students (Mage = 16.16, 49.3% girls). The findings supported the additive hypothesis: all three needs had unique effects on autonomous motivation. The synergistic hypothesis was only partially supported: one two-way interaction between autonomy and competence had effect on autonomous motivation. A high level of satisfaction of the need for autonomy led to autonomous motivation regardless of satisfaction of the need for competence. However, competence was positively rel…
Itsesäätely ja toiminnanohjaus oppimistilanteissa : itsesäätelyn minäpystyvyys ja taitojen kehittäminen alakoululaisilla
2020

Motivational predictors of students' participation in out-of-school learning activities and academic attainment in science : An application of the tr…
2018
Abstract Given the shortfall in students studying science, promotion of motivation and engagement in science education is a priority. The current study applied the trans-contextual model to study the motivational predictors of participation in science learning activities in secondary-school students . In a three-wave design, secondary-school students completed measures of perceived autonomy support, autonomous and controlled motivation, social-cognitive beliefs (attitudes, subjective norms, perceived control), intentions, and self-reported participation in out-of-school science learning activities. Five-weeks later, students self-reported their science learning activities. Students' science…

Vapauttava laulupedagogiikka : kriittinen toimintatutkimus oppilaslähtöistä laulunopetusmallia luomassa
2011
Vapauttava laulupedagogiikka on pro gradu -opinnäytetyö, jonka tavoitteena on määritellä laulupedagogista mallia yhdistelemällä oppilaslähtöisiä suuntauksia, kuten psykofyysistä musiikkipedagogiikkaa, Paulo Freiren kriittistä vapautuksen pedagogiikkaa, Eira Korpisen kokonaisvaltaista koulukasvatusmallia, sekä tutkivan opettajan ja oppilaan kokemuksia. Tutkimus on luonteeltaan narratiivinen.
"This is my portfolio" : portfolios in upper secondary school English studies
2000
This qualitative case study describes a portfolio programme in the teaching of English as a foreign language in two Finnish upper secondary schools. Approximately 100 students participated in the portfolio programme, whose topic area was culture. Firstly, the purpose of this action research was to try out and develop portfolios in foreign language teaching as a pedagogical innovation. Secondly, the aim was to foster students' empowerment, i.e. their active and responsible role in learning. Thus, the primary research interests were twofold: How did the portfolio programme proceed and progress? Did the portfolio programme foster the students' empowerment? The present report is divided into th…
Self-direction
2020
Self-direction refers to an individual’s responsibility and active role in relation to their own activities. It has largely been considered from the perspective of the individual, with self-direction being seen as a characteristic of the person, a linear process, or a feature influenced by the factors surrounding the individual. It is understood as a positive activity that promotes creativity and learning. However, the possibilities for self-direction have been less explored. The theme of self-direction and its possibilities comprise a topical and important perspective in the research on self-direction. peerReviewed
Self-Directed Learning as a Practice of Workplace Learning: Interpretative Repertoires of Self-Directed Learning in ICT Work
2019
Changing technologies and competition in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) are challenging the learning of individual workers and teams alongside and through work. Organisations call for employees’ autonomy and self-directedness executed by agile operations and low hierarchies, where learning is also increasingly the responsibility of the individuals and teams themselves and occurs in practice without strong control of the organisation. Therefore, the multidimensional concept of self-directed learning becomes essential in the context of learning at work. In this study, we examine how employees in the ICT sector describe self-directed learning practices in the conte…
