In Finland, curriculum design is allegedly carried out through a deliberative process that involves various stakeholders, interest groups, experts and ordinary citizens. To facilitate participation in curriculum design, online crowdsourcing has been applied. The objective of this study is to explore to what extent the design process of the latest Finnish national curriculum for mathematics was open, democratic and deliberative. Up with ecology, down with economy? : The consolidation of the idea of climate change mitigation in the global public sphere

Building on theories of valuation and evaluation, we develop an analytical framework that outlines six elements of the process of consolidation of an idea in the public sphere. We then use the framework to analyse the process of consolidation of the idea of climate change mitigation between 1997 and 2013, focusing on the interplay between ecological and economic evaluations. In the aftermath of the First World War, constitutions of European states were widely democratized and parliamentarized, and similar turns were expected in international relations as a consequence of the creation of the League of Nations. This comparative analysis of Swedish and Finnish parliamentary debates on the League membership focusing on conceptualizations of the national versus international demonstrates how democratization and internationalization merged discursively. In 2017, Finnish celebrity Sini Ariell published a blog post titled “F*** this shit” in which she revealed her difficult feelings as a mother of a newborn baby. Attracting attention from Finnish media, the post went viral. Through the empirical analysis of affective reactions to the post on an anonymous online discussion board, we explore how the limits of the public expression of negative maternal feelings are negotiated and maintained, but also challenged. Pro gradu -työssäni tutkin Timo Hännikäisen Ilman-esseekokoelman, teoksen pohjalta syntyneiden internetkeskusteluketjujen ja lehtiartikkelien muodostamaa kokonaisyhteyttä. Kiinnitän huomioni asetelmaan, jossa Ilmanista pääasiallisesti keskustellaan aiheesta kirjoitettujen lehtijuttujen pohjalta, ei niinkään itse teoksen lukemisesta saatujen tietojen perusteella. Konkreettisten yhteyksien vähäisyydestä huolimatta teoksen ja vastaanoton voi nähdä limittyvän toisiinsa ja antavan perusteita toistensa olemassaololle.
