Rectifications optique et thermique générées à l'aide de jonctions tunnel planaires électromigrées
2017
The work described in this manuscrit consists in studying the optical rectification within plasmo-electronic devices. These ultra-compact optically adressed components with an ultra-fast time response induces a conversion of the incident field into a static current. The monolithically-integrated electronically optical antenna requires a detailed knowledge of nanoscale thermal and electrical transport mechanisms. This work also aims to discuss all thermal effects inherent in the optical excitation of these connected devices, in order to identify the different contributions in the generation of a photo-assisted current.
Enterocytes'tight junctions play a protective role in limiting invasion of Candida albicans into intestinal cells
2013
National audience; C. albicans is a commensal yeast of the mucous membranes in healthy humans that can also be responsible for disseminated candidiasis, mainly originating from the digestive tract in vulnerable patients. Deciphering the cellular and molecular mechanisms of the interaction of C. albicans with enterocytes is necessary to better understand the basis of commensalism and pathogenicity of the yeast and to improve the management of disseminated candidiasis. In intestinal epithelia, E-cadherin is constitutive of the Adherens Junctions localized just below the Tight Junctions (TJs) which ensure impermeability of the intestinal barrier. We hypothesized the absence of endocytosis of C…
An impaired alveolar-capillary barrier in vitro : effect of proinflammatory cytokines and consequences on nanocarrier interaction.
2009
The alveolar region of the lung is an important target for drug and gene delivery approaches. Treatment with drugs is often necessary under pathophysiological conditions, in which there is acute inflammation of the target organ. Therefore, in vitro models of the alveolar-capillary barrier, which mimic inflammatory conditions in the alveolar region, would be useful to analyse and predict effects of novel drugs on healthy or inflamed tissues. The epithelial cell line H441 was cultivated with primary isolated human pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (HPMECs) or the endothelial cell line ISO-HAS-1 on opposite sides of a permeable filter support under physiological and inflammatory condi…
Pseudo-Planar Organic Heterojunctions by Sequential Printing of Quasi-Miscible Inks
2021
This work deals with the interfacial mixing mechanism of picoliter (pL)-scale droplets produced by sequential inkjet printing of organic-based inks onto ITO/PET surfaces at a moderately high Weber number (~101). Differently from solution dispensing processes at a high Bond number such as spin coating, the deposition by inkjet printing is strictly controlled by droplet velocity, ink viscosity, and surface tension. In particular, this study considers the interfacial mixing of droplets containing the most investigated donor/acceptor couple for organic solar cells, i.e., poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and (6,6)-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM), showing how low-viscosity and low-surfac…
Synergistic effects of neurons and astrocytes on the differentiation of brain capillary endothelial cells in culture
2003
Brain capillary endothelial cells form a functional barrier between blood and brain, based on the existence of tight junctions that limit paracellular permeability. Occludin is one of the major transmembrane proteins of tight junctions and its peripheral localization gives indication of tight junction formation. We previously reported that RBE4.B cells (brain capillary endothelial cells), cultured on collagen IV, synthesize occludin and correctly localize it at the cell periphery only when cocultured with neurons. In the present study, we describe a three-cell type-culture system that allowed us to analyze the combined effects of neurons and astrocytes on differentiation of brain capillary …
Gap junctions and connexin hemichannels both contribute to the electrical properties of retinal pigment epithelium.
2022
Gap junctions are intercellular channels that permit the transfer of ions and small molecules between adjacent cells. These cellular junctions are particularly dense in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), and their contribution to many retinal diseases has been recognized. While gap junctions have been implicated in several aspects of RPE physiology, their role in shaping the electrical properties of these cells has not been characterized in mammals. The role of gap junctions in the electrical properties of the RPE is particularly important considering the growing appreciation of RPE as excitable cells containing various voltage-gated channels. We used a whole-cell patch clamp to measure …

Downregulation of the Astroglial Connexin Expression and Neurodegeneration after Pilocarpine-Induced Status Epilepticus
2022
Astrocytic networks and gap junctional communication mediated by connexins (Cxs) have been repeatedly implicated in seizures, epileptogenesis, and epilepsy. However, the effect of seizures on Cx expression is controversial. The present study focused on the response of Cxs to status epilepticus (SE), which is in turn an epileptogenic insult. The expression of neuronal Cx36 and astrocytic Cx30 and Cx43 mRNAs was investigated in the brain of rats in the first day after pilocarpine-induced SE. In situ hybridization revealed a progressive decrease in Cx43 and Cx30 mRNA levels, significantly marked 24 h after SE onset in neocortical areas and the hippocampus, and in most thalamic domains, whereas…
Surface and interface effects on the current-voltage characteristic curves of multiwall carbon nanotube-Si hybrid junctions selectively probed throug…
2021
The possibility to increase the efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) cells based on hybrid carbon nanotube (CNT)–Si heterojunctions is related to the ability to control the chemical properties of the CNT–Si interface and of the CNT bundle layer. In spite of the encouraging performances of PV cells based on multiwall (MW) CNT, so far few efforts have been made in the study of this device compared to single wall (SW) CNT–Si interfaces. Here, surface and interface effects on the current–voltage characteristic curves of MW CNT–Si hybrid junctions are investigated through exposure to HF vapors and to 10 ppm-NO2 and compared to the effects detected in SW CNT–Si junctions. Quite similar results in term…
On the Fast and Rigorous Analysis of Compensated Waveguide Junctions Using Off-Centered Partial-Height Metallic Posts
2007
In this paper, we present an efficient and rigorous method, based on the 3-D boundary integral-resonant-mode expansion technique, for the analysis of multiport rectangular waveguide junctions compensated with partial-height cylindrical metallic posts. The electrical performance of a great variety of commonly used wideband microwave circuits has been improved drastically thanks to the introduction of a new design parameter, i.e., the relative position of the metallic post in the structure. To the authors' knowledge, this parameter has not been taken into account in previous studies concerning compensated junctions using partial-height metallic posts. The developed tool has been successfully …
