Discord of response
2014
The presence of quantum correlations in a quantum state is related to the state response to local unitary perturbations. Such response is quantified by the distance between the unperturbed and perturbed states, minimized with respect to suitably identified sets of local unitary operations. In order to be a bona fide measure of quantum correlations, the distance function must be chosen among those that are contractive under completely positive and trace preserving maps. The most relevant instances of such physically well behaved metrics include the trace, the Bures, and the Hellinger distance. To each of these metrics one can associate the corresponding discord of response, namely the trace,…
An extended continuous mapping theorem for outer almost sure weak convergence
2019
International audience; We prove an extended continuous mapping theorem for outer almost sure weak convergence in a metric space, a notion that is used in bootstrap empirical processes theory. Then we make use of those results to establish the consistency of several bootstrap procedures in empirical likelihood theory for functional parameters.
Narrow Bound States of the DNN System
2012
We report on a recent calculation of the properties of the $DNN$ system, a charmed meson with two nucleons. The system is analogous to the $\bar K NN$ system substituting a strange quark by a charm quark. Two different methods are used to evaluate the binding and width, the Fixed Center approximation to the Faddeev equations and a variational calculation. In both methods we find that the system is bound by about 200 MeV and the width is smaller than 40 MeV, a situation opposite to the one of the $\bar K NN$ system and which makes this state well suited for experimental observation.
The Bourdieu Affair
2018
In this chapter, the author analyzes Pierre Bourdieu as a representative of the French intellectual tradition. In the name of morality, he rose to defend those who suffered injustice. In the Bourdieu affair, the sufferers of injustice were the unemployed and part-time workers. The opponents were the neoliberal market ideologists, historical successors to the form of capitalism Emile Zola had already dissected in his book on the stock exchange, Avarice (greed), as well as audio-visual communication tools, which Bourdieu accused of mediocrity. As in the cases of Zola and Jean-Paul Sartre, Bourdieu’s message is universal, even though the problems selected, the form of their presentation and th…
Variaciones del drama historial en Lope de Vega
2013
Starting from the presentation of the principles underlying the current research and that link it to previous studies —principles which deal with the concept and features of drama historial (historic drama) in Lope de Vega—, the essay focuses on the distinction of two fundamental modes of drama historial: the commemoration of famous historical events on the one hand, and moral conflict analysis, almost always of private nature and exploding in specific historical circumstances, on the other hand. These two major strategies of significance, the one being characteristic of a collective memory, associated with the identity of the nascent nation, and the other one exploring private identity, th…
SUBJECTIVITY AS A NON-TEXTUAL STANDARD OF INTERPRETATION IN THE HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHICAL PSYCHOLOGY
2010
Contemporary caution against anachronism in intellectual history, and the currently momentous theoretical emphasis on subjectivity in the philosophy of mind, are two prevailing conditions that set puzzling constraints for studies in the history of philosophical psychology. The former urges against assuming ideas, motives, and concepts that are alien to the historical intellectual setting under study, and combined with the latter suggests caution in relying on our intuitions regarding subjectivity due to the historically contingent characterizations it has attained in contemporary philosophy of mind. In the face of these conditions, our paper raises a question of what we call non-textual (as…
Experience, Subjectivity and Politics in the Italian Feminist Movement
2006
This article describes the political practices of a part of the Italian women’s movement that, as of the 1980s, gave way to the sexual difference thought. Through a political analysis of their own experience, which removed any humanist identity assumptions, the women’s movement generated new practices and discourses. With these, women were able to exert self-criticism, and simultaneously to produce new subjectivities articulated around the sexual difference concept. The difference thought helped highlight the limits of institutional policy, renewing the premises of political analysis and redefining the borders of what was deemed to be ‘political’. Intended to foster dialogue with other femi…
What is Experience? : Foucauldian Perspectives
2019
Michel Foucault’s (1926–1984) thought is widely used in the humanities and social sciences for investigating experiences of madness, illness, marginalization and social conflicts. However, the meaning of the word “experience” is not always clearly defined, and the French word expérience has a whole variety of meanings. In this article I explicate Foucault’s most relevant concepts of experience and their theoretical functions. He refers to experience throughout his career, especially in his early texts on existential psychiatry from the 1950s and 1960s and in his late work from the 1980s. Texts such as Mental Illness and Psychology and Dire vrai sur soi-même have received less attention than…
Subdivisions of Ring Dupin Cyclides Using Bézier Curves with Mass Points
2021
Dupin cyclides are algebraic surfaces introduced for the first time in 1822 by the French mathematician Pierre-Charles Dupin. A Dupin cyclide can be defined as the envelope of a one-parameter family of oriented spheres, in two different ways. R. Martin is the first author who thought to use these surfaces in CAD/CAM and geometric modeling. The Minkowski-Lorentz space is a generalization of the space-time used in Einstein’s theory, equipped of the non-degenerate indefinite quadratic form $$Q_{M} ( \vec{u} ) = x^{2} + y^{2} + z^{2} - c^{2} t^{2}$$ where (x, y, z) are the spacial components of the vector $$ \vec{u}$$ and t is the time component of $$ \vec{u}$$ and c is the constant of the spee…
