Revision of the plant bug genus Xenocylapus Bergroth (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae: Cylapinae), with a description of Henryfulvius gracilis – a ne…

2014

SummaryThe genus Xenocylapus Bergroth, 1922 is revised. Nine new species, Xenocylapus aculeatus sp. nov., X. aquilonius sp. nov., X. bicolor sp. nov., X. globulus sp. nov., X. heissi sp. nov., X. panamaensis sp. nov., X. serrulatus sp. nov., X. tenuis sp. nov., and X. waorani sp. nov., are described from Brazil, Honduras, Mexico, and Panama. New genus and species Henryfulvius gracilis gen. nov., sp. nov. is described from Ecuador. Illustrations of the male genitalia, color photographs of dorsal and lateral views of the adult of most species, scanning electron micrographs of selected structures of X. tenuis, and keys to species of the genus Xenocylapus are provided.

Considerations on systematics of the Phytoseiidae (Acari: Mesostigmata), with definition of a new species…

2015

The authors debate some aspects of the classification of the Phytoseiidae, especially the subfamily Typhlodrominae. Within this taxon, the rhenanus group is the most numerous species group of Typhlodromus (Anthoseius), with 206 nominal species. Detailed observation of morphological characters of the species in this group showed a considerable variation, suggesting the presence of different natural lineages. The discovery of the new species here described, Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) sandrae Ragusa & Tsolakis n. sp., allowed the definition of the new porathi species group. Definition of the new species group, a dichotomous key as well as the description of the new species are given.

Seven new species: Cylapocoris costaricaensis sp. nov., C. cucullatus sp. nov., C. fulvus sp. nov., C. laevigatus sp. nov., C. marmoreus sp. nov., C. plectipennis sp. nov., and C. simplex sp. nov. are described from Costa Rica, Brazil, Ecuador, and Venezuela. The genus Adcylapocoris Carvalho, 1989 is synonymized with Cylapocoris . Five species: C. castaneus (Carvalho, 1989), C. funebris (Distant, 1883), C. pilosus Carvalho, 1954 , C. sulinus Carvalho & Gomes 1971 , and C. tiquiensis Carvalho, 1954 are redescribed. Seven Mathematical Models of Hemorrhagic Shock

2021

Although mathematical modelling of pressure-flow dynamics in the cardiocirculatory system has a lengthy history, readily finding the appropriate model for the experimental situation at hand is often a challenge in and of itself. An ideal model would be relatively easy to use and reliable, besides being ethically acceptable. Furthermore, it would address the pathogenic features of the cardiovascular disease that one seeks to investigate. No universally valid model has been identified, even though a host of models have been developed. The object of this review is to describe several of the most relevant mathematical models of the cardiovascular system: the physiological features of circulator…

Digital competence across boundaries - beyond a common Nordic model of the digitalisation of K-12 schools?

2021

This paper explores policy related to digital competence and the digitalisation of Nordic K-12 schools. Anchored in some key transnational policies on digital competence, it describes some current Nordic movements in the national policies of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The concept of boundary objects is used as an analytical lens, for understanding digital competence as a plastic and temporal concept that can be used to discuss the multi-dimensional translation of this concept in these Nordic countries. The paper ends with a discussion of the potential to view digital competence as a unifying boundary object that, with its plasticity, temporality and n-dimensionality, can show sign…

Classification of spectra and search for biomarkers in prostate tumours from proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy

2010

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men over 50 years. Current detection methods either lack sensitivity or specificity or are unpleasant for the patient. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy allows the study of metabolism in vivo. The use of a high field machine (≥3T) has allowed us to dispense with the use of an endorectal coil, which is particularly uncomfortable for the patient. The objective of this thesis is to create an automatic method to detect cancer by processing data obtained through magnetic resonance spectroscopy MRS is a complex phenomenon, very sensitive to acquisition conditions. Firstly, we have studied how to improve and optimise signal acquisition. However, even with…

Implication of Human Capital in the Development of SMEs through the ICT Adoption

2013

Abstract ICT adoption in SMEs and the attraction of benefits from use of these technologies remains a key point in their development. For an enterprise to take part in the digital economy must have a defined basis for innovative adopting, meaning a premise for the development of ICT infrastructure. Given that firms are not a self-driven machinery, human capital is a major factor of influence in enterprise digitization. Considering this, in this paper will analyze the effects generated by human capital on the level of ICT adoption in SMEs in Romania.

Metallimalmikaivosten vesistövaikutukset : esimerkkinä Talvivaaran kaivoksen sulfaatti-, natrium- ja mangaanipäästöt

2013

Mining industry is expanding in Finland and it is expected to become a forerunner in taking environmental issues into account in its processes. Mines often lower the water quality of their surrounding waters and this may lead to salinization and eutrophication for instance. Salinization may be due to dissolved ions in the wastewater, like sulphate and sodium, and may cause the artificial stratification of a lake. Sulphate can also prevent the natural circulation of iron in the sediments, which favors the release of phosphorus and could lead to eutrophication. All impacts cannot be assessed in advance and not enough studies have been made concerning these substances. The Talvivaara mine in S…

The hyo-laryngeal complex of Tarsius bancanus (Mammalia, Primates): a developmental and phylogenetic aspect

2008

The present approach reconstructed the hyo-laryngeal complex of fetal Tarsius bancanus by using the AMIRA 3.1.1 software. Our work fills a gap of ontogenetic research as this region has only been superficially described for an adult specimen representing the same genus. Furthermore, based on 51 characters we conducted several cladistic analyses considering the "Prosimii"/Haplorrhini-debate. Some anatomical information has been taken from the literature. Macclade© 4.06 was used in order to measure TL-, CI-, and RC-values of these two competing hypotheses, however, resulting in equal support. A PAUP© 4.02b parsimony analysis based on the Haplorrhini-hypothesis showed a significant bootstrap-v…

The genus Uracrobates (Acari, Oribatida, Mochlozetidae)

2015

Uracrobates (Parauracrobates) truncatus sp. nov. is proposed, based on specimens from soil in Nepal. Parauracrobates subgen. nov. is distinguishable from subgenus Uracrobates by the notogaster truncated posteriorly (versus conical). An identification key to known taxa in the genus Uracrobates is given.
