'Practice makes perfect' : learning to learn in secondary school EFL textbooks

Tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvittää oppimaan oppimisen näkyminen yläkoulun englannin kielen oppikirjoissa. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin, miten ja missä yhteyksissä oppimaan oppiminen tuli esille ja mitä kielitaidon osa-alueita painotettiin. Oppimaan oppimista on tutkittu Euroopassa ja Suomessa parina viime vuosikymmenenä. Hautamäki määrittää oppimaan oppimisen uskomuksiin ja taitoihin. Kieltenopetuksen painopiste on siirtynyt kielioppikeskeisestä virheettömyyden tavoittelusta kommunikatiivisen kompetenssin kehittämiseen. Tavoitteena on, että kielenopiskelijasta kasvaa kielenkäyttäjä, joka pystyy tilannekohtaisesti valitsemaan sopivan lähestymistavan ja kulttuurisidonnaisten käytöstapojen puitteissa viestimään kohdekielellä onnistuneesti. This study analyses epistemic practices in broadcast television interviews, focusing on three different interview genres: celebrity interviews, sports interviews and political interviews. In the analysis I examine the linguistic and interactional practices that are used to construct knowledge in the interviews. These practices include mobilization of different types of knowledge, use of assessments to invite first-hand knowledge, negotiation of epistemic stances while disaligning with the question, and use of assessments for claiming or contesting epistemic rights to authority and expertise. The Corpus of Finnish Sign Language

This paper presents the Corpus of Finnish Sign Language(Corpus FinSL), a structured and annotated collection of Finnish Sign Language (FinSL) videos published in May 2019 in FIN-CLARIN's Language Bank of Finland. The corpus is divided into two subcorpora, one of which comprises elicited narratives and the other conversations. All of the FinSL material has been annotated using ELAN and the lexical database Finnish Signbank. Basic annotation includes ID-glosses and translations into Finnish. Kehittymistä analysoidaan tarkkuuden näkökulmasta, ja sitä mitataan kohdekielen muoto- ja käyttökonventioista poikkeavien muotojen määrällä. Understanding the role of cross-language transfer of phonological awareness in emergent Hindi–English biliteracy acquisition

AbstractThis study examined within and cross-language relations, and specifically, the role of phonological awareness (PA) skills in reading among young Hindi-speaking children (L1) who were learning to read English (L2) in Delhi, India. Data was collected from 143 children in Grades 1 and 2 using measures validated for this population. The analyses examined the associations between L1 and L2 PA and decoding, both within and across the two languages. The results showed that PA skills within each language significantly predicted decoding in that language.
