Although folic acid is essential to numerous bodily functions, recent research indicates that a massive exposition to the vitamin could be a double-edged sword. In this study, the capacity of different caped mesoporous silica particles (i.e. Hollow Silica Shells, MCM-41, SBA-15 and UVM-7) to dose FA during its passage through the gastrointestinal tract has been evaluated. Results confirmed that the four capped materials were capable to hinder the delivery of FA at low pH (i.e. stomach) as well as able to deliver great amounts of the vitamin at neutral pH (i.e. intestine). Abstract The inactivation kinetics of PME in an orange juice–milk beverage system treated by thermal (65–80 °C) and combined thermal (25–65 °C)–high pressure (0.1–700 MPa) processes were fitted using a biphasic model. About 6–8% of the initial activity corresponding to the heat and pressure stable fraction was observed. For complete inactivation a treatment at 90 °C, 1 min or 700 MPa at 55 °C for 2 min was necessary showing the protective effect of the orange–milk media. Abstract This article addresses the kinetics of the dissolution of olivine for nano-silica production at extreme conditions. The extreme conditions are pH values between −0.7 and 1, temperature between 50 and 90 °C, solid content around 250 g/L and percentage dissolved between 80% and 99%. The kinetics of the anionic polymerization of methyl methacrylate in the presence of lithium perchlorate (LiClO 4 ) are investigated in THF using 1,1-diphenylhexyllithium as initiator in a flow-tube reactor between -30 and 0 °C. The rate constants of propagation determined in the presence of LiClO 4 are lower than those obtained in the absence of the salt, similar to the effect observed for LiCl. For propagation, the reaction order with respect to active center concentration is found to be 0.5 in both cases, which indicates that LiClO 4 does not effectively perturb the aggregation of the enolate ion pair. The rate constants for the epoxidation of cis-2-heptene with [2-percarboxyethyl]-functionalized silica (1a) and meta-chloroperbenzoic acid (mCPBA) (1b) in different solvents have been determined at temperatures in the −10 to 40 °C range. The heterogeneous epoxidation exhibits a dependence of the reaction rate on solvent polarity opposite to its homogeneous counterpart and anomalous activation parameters in n-hexane, which are interpreted in terms of the surface-promoted solvent structure at the solid–liquid interface. The results show that highly polar solvents can strongly inhibit heterogeneous reactions performed with silica-supported reagents or catalysts.

The interaction with native DNA of a 2,7-diazapyrenium-based ligand 1 and its Pt II rectangular metal- lacycle 2 is explored through circular and linear dichroism and fluorescence spectroscopies. The metal-free ligand 1 binds through intercalation, with a binding constant of approximately 5 � 10 5 m � 1 , whereas the metallacycle 2 binds and bends the DNA with a bind- ing constant of 7 � 10 6 m � 1 . PCR assays show that metallo-supramolecular box 2 interferes with DNA transactions in vitro whereas the intercalator 1 does not. The kinetics of the rearrangement of the Z-phenylhydrazone of 3-benzoyl-5-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole (1) into the relevant 4-benzoylamino-2,5-diphenyl-1,2,3-triazole (2) induced by amines have been studied in five room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) at different temperatures. The kinetic data collected show that both cationic and anionic parts of RTILs significantly influence the reactivity of the title reaction. The calculated activation parameters allow us to advance hypotheses about the weak interactions operating in RTIL solutions.
