AbstractWe show that if X is a first-countable Urysohn space where player II has a winning strategy in the game $$G^{\omega _1}_1({\mathcal {O}}, {\mathcal {O}}_D)$$ G 1 ω 1 ( O , O D ) (the weak Lindelöf game of length $$\omega _1$$ ω 1 ) then X has cardinality at most continuum. This may be considered a partial answer to an old question of Bell, Ginsburg and Woods. Multiplicity results for a class of asymmetric weakly coupled systems of second order ordinary differential equations

We prove the existence and multiplicity of solutions to a two-point boundary value problem associated to a weakly coupled system of asymmetric second-order equations. Applying a classical change of variables, we transform the initial problem into an equivalent problem whose solutions can be characterized by their nodal properties. The proof is developed in the framework of the shooting methods and it is based on some estimates on the rotation numbers associated to each component of the solutions to the equivalent system.

A presentation and a representation of the Held group

In this note we give a brief description of a new presentation of the Held group, which is deduced only from the original work of D. Held in 1969, who shows that a finite simple group, having the same centralizer of a 2-central involution as in the Mathieu group M24, is M24, L5(2) or a group of order 4.030.387.200. The first complete uniqueness proof for the latter case was given by L. Soicher in 1991. The generators and relations occurring here are easy to verify by a simple Todd–Coxeter algorithm. The contribution of this study is two-fold: First, it outlines a conceptual framework on political order; and secondly, it offers empirical illustrations on the case of Nordic cooperation. Taken together, the article makes a plea for public administration scholarship in the study of political order. Political order consists of a relatively stable arrangement of institutions that are fairly formalized and institutionalized. Darbā raksturots Gaujas baseina upju hidroloģiskais režīms un to ietekmējošie faktori, aplūkoti hidroloģiskā režīma pētījumi Latvijā un Baltijā. Veikts Amatas upes baseina fizioģeogrāfiskais raksturojums.
