With the so-called “affective turn” in the humanities and social sciences, affect has become a popular theoretical frame in the research of human practice and sociality. The notion of affect places feelings, emotions, embodied experiences, and the feel of things at the front and center of academic interest. Researchers differ in their definitions of affect – some see affect as a potential to affect and an openness to being affected, while others approach it as an intensity, a sensation, or a bodily process. Whether and how affect is distinct from emotion is a subject of ongoing scholarly debate. nonPeerReviewed

Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman tavoitteena on kuvata, millaista muutospuhe on sairaalan johtoryhmäkokouksissa. Tutkielmassa on tarkasteltu muutospuheen sisällöllisiä ja toiminnallisia tasoja. Sisällöllisillä tasoilla tarkoitetaan muutokseen liitettyjä merkityksiä ja toiminnallisilla tasoilla viitataan erilaisiin tapoihin osallistua muutoskeskusteluihin. Tutkielma on laadullinen ja analyysimenetelmänä on aineistolähtöinen sisällönanalyysi. Tutkimuskohteena on suomalaisen sairaalan kolmen toimialuetason ja kolmen vastuualuetason johtoryhmäkokouksen vuorovaikutus, jossa keskustellaan muutoksesta. Problem Talk in Management Group Meetings

This naturalistic study focuses on problem talk (PT) in hospital management group meetings. The study aims to understand how PT constitutes the hospital organization through the different uses of PT within the meetings, and, therefore, to understand the organizing role of these meetings. The communication as constitutive of organization (CCO) perspective forms the theoretical background of the research. The results of the qualitative analysis show that PT comprises many intertwined tasks that aim to perform the meetings, enhance problem solving, and maintain the relational level of group life. Taikoja ja tenhoa Oxfordissa: raportti Living in a Magical World: Inner Lives -konferenssista ja Spellbound-näyttelystä

Oxfordissa pidettiin 17.–19. syyskuuta kuluvan vuoden merkittävin magian, esoteeristen alojen ja taikauskon tutkimuksen kansainvälinen konferenssi Living in a Magical World: Inner Lives, 1300–1900. Samaan aikaan Oxfordin Ashmolean Museumissa pyörii yhteistyössä konferenssijärjestäjien kanssa kuratoitu näyttely Spellbound. Magic, Ritual, Witchcraft (31.8.2018 – 6.1.2019), jossa on esillä laaja valikoima magian ja taikauskon historiaa keskiajalta 1900-luvulle. Lyhyt reportaasi arvioi sekä konferenssin että näyttelyn antia.

Vuoden 2018 IFLA konferenssi pidettiin Kuala Lumpurissa, Malesiassa. Paikalle oli kokoontunut reilu 3500 konferenssivierasta yli sadasta maasta. Erilaisia tapahtumakokonaisuuksia oli liki kolmesataa aihekohtaisista sessioista toimielinten tapaamisiin ja lyhyisiin seitsemän minuutin lightning talks -pikaesitelmien kokonaisuuksiin. Lisäksi vielä epäviralliset tapahtumat ja vierailut suuren metropolin kirjastoihin ja nähtävyyksiin täyttivät nopeasti vierailijan kalenterin. nonPeerReviewed

The collected data reported in this document gives mainly positive feedback on Virtual Toolkit (IO2), highlighting some interesting and relevant elements that can be further developed in its final release. The group of respondents have a quite long average experience in managing inter-institutional projects and belong to the EU-defined main participants groups of Managers (22), Teachers/Trainers/Researchers/Youth workers (17), Technicians (3) and Administrative staff (5). Of the 8 indicators outlined in the original ONE Meeting Project proposal, 5 were met, 3 not.
