Evolving Conceptualisations of Internationalism in the UK Parliament : Collocation Analyses from the League to Brexit

This chapter explores a historical distant reading strategy of British Parliamentary discourse. It uses historical collocation analyses of ‘internationalism’ and the ‘international’ in the British Hansard Corpus and a selection of Commons and Lords debates concerning British membership in international organisations as it relates to the League of Nations, United Nations, Council of Europe, EEC and Brexit. The collocates that were deemed to be politically significant are grouped in 13 loose semantic fields. Artikkelimme kasittelee korpuspohjaisia oppijansanakirjoja. Sahkoisiin aineistoihin ja kielenkaytosta hankittuun tutkimukselliseen tietoon perustuvat sanakirjat ovat edelleen harvinaisia, ja kielenoppijoille niita on tarjolla hyvin vahan. Suomesta tallaisia sanakirjoja ei ole ollut lainkaan. Esittelemme yleisesti oppijoille suunnattujen sahkoisten sanakirjojen vaatimuksia ja tarkemmin uuden tekeilla olevan ConLexis-verkkosanakirjan suunnittelutyota, tavoitteita ja sisaltoa. Im Rahmen der Phraseologieforschung haben Kollokationen traditionell nur wenig Beachtung gefunden. Im Gegensatz zu Idiomen sind sie in der Regel semantisch transparent und bereiten daher Fremdsprachenlernern selten rezeptive Schwierigkeiten. Bei der Textproduktion muss jedoch die Problematik der Kollokationen beachtet werden. Aus diesem Grund halten wir Kollokationen für einen wichtigen Bereich der Phraseologie. The article focuses on digital discourses related to Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa, the three biggest municipalities in Finland’s capital region. The data consist of texts from the discussion forum of Suomi24 that was analysed to find out how forum users produce socio-spatial distinctions by categorizing some groups as ‘others’ thus differentiating in-groups and out-groups. The analysis used methods of comprised corpus assisted discourse studies (CADS), including collocation analysis.
