Journalists’ Associations as Political Instruments in Central and Eastern Europe

This editorial provides the overall context for the five cases—three national and two international—covered in this thematic issue. While the cases are from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), they highlight fundamental questions of journalism everywhere, including contradictions between freedom and control, professionalism and politics, individual and collective. The associations of journalists serve as very useful platforms to study these questions, especially at historical turning points when the whole political system changed, as happened twice in CEE after World War II.

Abstract Background A territory as a prerequisite for breeding limits the maximum number of breeders in a given area, and thus lowers the proportion of breeders if population size increases. However, some territorially breeding animals can have dramatic density fluctuations and little is known about the change from density-dependent processes to density-independence of breeding during a population increase or an outbreak. Short-interval intracortical inhibition (SICI) of the primary motor cortex (M1) appears to play a significant role in skill acquisition. Consequently, it is of interest to find out which factors cause modulation of SICI. Purpose: To establish if visual feedback and force requirements influence SICI. Perinteisesti kontrollin käsite on ymmärretty johdon kontrollin mukaisesti, mikä tarkoittaa kontrollin olevan organisaation johdon omaisuutta. Johdon kontrolli on kuitenkin määritelty hyvin eri aikana kuin mitä nyt elämme ja se ei enää täysin riitä selittämään kontrollin ilmenemistä nykyisessä työelämän kontekstissa.
