Biased predation could promote convergence yet maintain diversity within Müllerian mimicry rings of Oreina leaf beetles.
2019
Mullerian mimicry is a classic example of adaptation, yet Muller's original theory does not account for the diversity often observed in mimicry rings. Here, we aimed to assess how well classical Mullerian mimicry can account for the colour polymorphism found in chemically defended Oreina leaf beetles by using field data and laboratory assays of predator behaviour. We also evaluated the hypothesis that thermoregulation can explain diversity between Oreina mimicry rings. We found that frequencies of each colour morph were positively correlated among species, a critical prediction of Mullerian mimicry. Predators learned to associate colour with chemical defences. Learned avoidance of the green…
Fast Implementation of Double-coupled Nonnegative Canonical Polyadic Decomposition
2019
Real-world data exhibiting high order/dimensionality and various couplings are linked to each other since they share some common characteristics. Coupled tensor decomposition has become a popular technique for group analysis in recent years, especially for simultaneous analysis of multi-block tensor data with common information. To address the multiblock tensor data, we propose a fast double-coupled nonnegative Canonical Polyadic Decomposition (FDC-NCPD) algorithm in this study, based on the linked CP tensor decomposition (LCPTD) model and fast Hierarchical Alternating Least Squares (Fast-HALS) algorithm. The proposed FDCNCPD algorithm enables simultaneous extraction of common components, i…
Road to unity? : Nordic economic convergence in the long run
2022
This study examines Nordic economic convergence from the sixteenth to twentieth century respective of the economic leaders, in effect the UK before 1914 and USA thereafter. The paper uses a novel approach of combining the analysis of both GDP and wages. The examination of real GDP per capita suggests that there was a catch-up process in play, both with the economic leaders and among the Nordic states, from the early nineteenth century onwards. However, the examination of the adjusted silver wages suggests convergence among the Nordic economies by the end of the eighteenth century. Therefore, we argue, no single Nordic Model emerged from these development patterns, even though the Nordic sta…
"TV- uutiset yhä kruununjalokivi" : MTV:n televisiouutisten muutos vuosina 2007-2015
2016
Lisäksi tutkielmassa pyritään selvittämään, missä määrin median konvergenssi on va…
Media work in change: Understanding the role of media professionals in times of digital transformation and convergence
2017
© 2017 John Wiley & Sons Ltd. This article discusses media work and the changes that have swept the media industry from the vantage point of professionals working in media companies and organisations. The concept of media work guides towards new understanding about the media industry and media professions under digital transition. Media work indicates a move towards more diversified job tasks, closer cooperation among different media professions, increased commercial thinking, and interaction with audiences.
Jacobian of weak limits of Sobolev homeomorphisms
2016
Abstract Let Ω be a domain in ℝ n {\mathbb{R}^{n}} , where n = 2 , 3 {n=2,3} . Suppose that a sequence of Sobolev homeomorphisms f k : Ω → ℝ n {f_{k}\colon\Omega\to\mathbb{R}^{n}} with positive Jacobian determinants, J ( x , f k ) > 0 {J(x,f_{k})>0} , converges weakly in W 1 , p ( Ω , ℝ n ) {W^{1,p}(\Omega,\mathbb{R}^{n})} , for some p ⩾ 1 {p\geqslant 1} , to a mapping f. We show that J ( x , f ) ⩾ 0 {J(x,f)\geqslant 0} a.e. in Ω. Generalizations to higher dimensions are also given.
Mean square rate of convergence for random walk approximation of forward-backward SDEs
2020
AbstractLet (Y,Z) denote the solution to a forward-backward stochastic differential equation (FBSDE). If one constructs a random walk$B^n$from the underlying Brownian motionBby Skorokhod embedding, one can show$L_2$-convergence of the corresponding solutions$(Y^n,Z^n)$to$(Y, Z).$We estimate the rate of convergence based on smoothness properties, especially for a terminal condition function in$C^{2,\alpha}$. The proof relies on an approximative representation of$Z^n$and uses the concept of discretized Malliavin calculus. Moreover, we use growth and smoothness properties of the partial differential equation associated to the FBSDE, as well as of the finite difference equations associated to t…
Donsker-Type Theorem for BSDEs: Rate of Convergence
2019
In this paper, we study in the Markovian case the rate of convergence in Wasserstein distance when the solution to a BSDE is approximated by a solution to a BSDE driven by a scaled random walk as introduced in Briand, Delyon and Mémin (Electron. Commun. Probab. 6 (2001) Art. ID 1). This is related to the approximation of solutions to semilinear second order parabolic PDEs by solutions to their associated finite difference schemes and the speed of convergence. peerReviewed
Millenniaalisukupolvi ja uusi digitaalinen kuilu

Heinonen, Kalle Millenniaalisukupolvi ja uusi digitaalinen kuilu Jyväskylä: Jyväskylän yliopisto, 2013, 24 s. Tietojärjestelmätiede, Kandidaatin tutkielma Ohjaaja: Pasi Tyrväinen Internet on muuttunut viimeisen kahdenkymmenen vuoden aikana tärkeäksi informaatiolähteeksi. Internetin yleistyminen aiheutti sen alkuaikoina epätasa-arvoa niiden välillä, joilla oli mahdollisuus käyttää internetiä ja niiden, joilla tätä mahdollisuutta ei ollut. Tätä epätasa-arvoa on kutsuttu digitaaliseksi kuilusi. Teknologia ja tietoyhteydet ovat kehittyneet viime vuosikymmeninä huimasti ja nykyään lähes kaikilla on tasapuoliset mahdollisuudet käyttää internetiä. Internetin käytössä on kuitenkin monista syistä ai…
