Linguistic Repertoires and Semiotic Resources in Interaction: A Finnish Manager as a Mediator in a Multilingual Meeting

This article examines professional communication in a multilingual meeting in a small company in Finland within ethnographic, sociolinguistic, and discourse analytic frameworks. English is used as a lingua franca by a group of Finnish and Chinese business professionals. The aim is to study how language is used with other semiotic resources to construct meaning in interaction. In particular, with the focus on an individual participant who was the mediator in the meeting, the goal is to analyze participants’ role alignment and interpersonal relationships. Vaihto-opiskelijat tulevat Suomeen opiskelemaan usein sen takia että suomalaiset osaavat niin hyvin englantia. Suomalaisiin tutustuminen koetaan kuitenkin erittäin haastavaksi. Yhteyksien puuttuminen vaihto-opiskelijoiden ja suomalaisten välillä onkin yksi suurimmista epäkohdista Suomessa opiskelemisessa. Miten englanninkielisen opintotarjonnan perässä tulevat vaihto-opiskelijat saataisiin lähemmäksi suomalaista kulttuuria ja yhteiskuntaa? Yksi ratkaisu löytyy kielikursseista. AbstractKaasik-Krogerus scrutinizes the European Heritage Label (EHL) as an authorized heritage discourse (AHD) in the making. She analyses how the discourse is formed in a politics of mobility and stability between the local, national, and European scales resulting from the interplay of europeanization (of the national and local) and domestication (of the European). Šī pētījuma mērķis ir atklāt un salīdzināt jautājuma veidus un to valodas funkcijas, kas tiek lietotas izvēlētajās tiešsaistes lietotāju rokasgrāmatās. Diskursa analīze ir izvēlēta kā empīriskā pētījumu metode, lai izpētītu jautājumu veidus un to valodas funkcijas Facebook un Twitter lietotāju rokasgrāmatās.
