The World Hobbit Project in Finland : Audience responses and transmedial user practices

This article examines audience engagement with The Hobbit fantasy film trilogy as a participatory and transmedial experience. To do so, we use the data collected by The World Hobbit Project in order to investigate the transmedial user practices of the Finnish audience of the trilogy. We will, firstly, look at what kinds of transmedial user practices – and transmedia users – emerge from our data. Secondly, we will ask the following questions: How do transmedia users receive and experience the films? Tämän lisäksi mielikuvien käyttäminen laulunopetuksessa on perusteltua, sillä laulaja ei voi nähdä ääni-instrumenttiaan. Mielikuvien avulla laulaja oppii hahmottamaan ja aistimaan kehoaan paremmin ja niillä voi vaikuttaa huomattavasti jopa kokonaisen kuoron sointiin. Tarkoitus on selvittää, kuinka naishahmoja representoidaan eli kuvataan visuaalisin keinoin, puheen/dialogin keinoin, erilaisten käyttäytymismallien kautta sekä kuinka hahmot toimivat elokuvissa, eli mikä hahmojen rooli on elokuvan juonen kannalta. Exotic and Primitive Lapland : Othering in The Earth Is a Sinful Song (1973)

This article contributes to postcolonial cultural criticism by analyzing how since the 1920s, Lapland and its residents have been portrayed as exotic Others in Finnish feature films that are set in Lapland. The roots of the othering of Lapland go back to the nationalist aspirations of the Finns. The geographical distance of the northern region has bred mental distance, because of which Lapland has remained a source of exoticism for filmmakers, who almost invariably come from the South. Predicting stiffness and strength of birch pulp:Polylactic acid composites

This paper studies failure of birch pulp–polylactic acid composites. Stiffness and strength are calculated using the theory of short fibre composites and the results are compared to experimental data. The results differed from the experimental values by 0–6%. With less aligned fibres the short fibre theory is not feasible. The performance of the 40 wt% birch pulp – polylactic acid composite is predicted with X-ray microtomography based finite element modelling, and the results are compared with experiments.
