Variation and variability in L2 learning trajectories : Learning the Finnish existential construction

Taking an onomasiological approach and a dynamic usage-based perspective, this study explores how four beginning L2 learners of Finnish develop in expressing existentiality (‘there is something somewhere’) before and after instruction. Data were collected weekly over a period of nine months and examined for conventionalized and non-conventionalized constructions that express existentiality. As expected from a dynamic usage-based perspective, both inter-individual variation and intra-individual variability were identified. Synthesis and characterization of ethylene-1-hexene copolymers prepared by using MgCl2(THF)2-supported Ziegler-Natta catalysts

Ethylene was copolymerized with 1-hexene over vanadium (VOCl3 and VCl4) and titanium (TiCl4) catalysts supported on MgCl2(THF)2 and activated with Et2AlCl. So far these catalyst systems have not been known as initiators of ethylene-1-hexene copolymerization. The vanadium catalysts were more active than the titanium catalyst and, at identical comonomer concentrations in the feed, gave rise to a greater incorporation of 1-hexene into the copolymer. Even at relatively low fractions of 1-hexene, the MgCl2(THF)2-supported catalysts affected much the copolymer properties like density, melting point and crystallinity.

Ozone-Based Atomic Layer Deposition of Al2O3 from Dimethylaluminum Chloride and Its Impact on Silicon Surface Passivation

Dimethylaluminum chloride (DMACl) as an aluminum source has shown promising potential to replace more expensive and commonly used trimethylaluminum in the semiconductor industry for atomic layer deposited (ALD) thin films. Here, the Al2O3 DMACl-process is modified by replacing the common ALD oxidant, water, by ozone that offers several benefits including shorter purge time, layer-by-layer growth, and improved film adhesion. It is shown that the introduction of the ozone instead of water increases carbon and chlorine content in the Al2O3, while long ozone pulses increase the amount of interfacial hydrogen at silicon surface. Tässä artikkelissa tarkastelen peruskoulun yhdeksännen luokan oppilaiden vieraan kielen oppimismotivaatioprofiilien ja kieltenopetuksessa saatujen arvosanojen yh-teyttä heidän perusopetuksen jälkeisiin jatko-opiskelusuunnitelmiinsa. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on tarkastella kriittisesti motivaation ja kouluarvosanan suhdetta kiel-tenopiskelussa ja pohtia tämän mahdollisia kielikoulutuspoliittisia implikaatioita.
