Sterol Digestion in Plant Sterol-Enriched Foods: Bioaccessibility and Fermentation
2021
Plant sterol-enriched foods have proved to lower serum total and low-density lipoproteins-cholesterol concentration, so they have faced a great increase in the market over the past 20 years through accepted health claims. This chapter provides an overall and critical picture on the current knowledge and future perspectives regarding bioaccessibility and fermentation of sterols contained in plant sterol-enriched food products, particularly focused on the effect of food matrix composition, as well as different in vitro gastrointestinal digestion methodologies, and the role of microbiota in the sterol degradation. The final objective of this chapter is to evince the different aspects of the di…
Ensemble methods for item-weighted label ranking: a comparison
2022
Label Ranking (LR), an emerging non-standard supervised classification problem, aims at training preference models that order a finite set of labels based on a set of predictor features. Traditional LR models regard all labels as equally important. However, in many cases, failing to predict the ranking position of a highly relevant label can be considered more severe than failing to predict a trivial one. Moreover, an efficient LR classifier should be able to take into account the similarity between the items to be ranked. Indeed, swapping two similar elements should be less penalized than swapping two dissimilar ones. The contribution of the present paper is to formulate more flexible item…
What’s in a name : the effect of category labels on teachers’ beliefs.
2019
In this paper, we report an investigation of the possible influence on teachers’ essentialist thinking and efficacy beliefs of category labels used to describe children’s educational difficulties. A 2x2x2 counterbalanced design was employed in which primary school teachers in Finland and the UK were exposed to vignettes that portrayed a child exhibiting difficulties in one of two domains: either behaviour or reading. Vignettes were presented in two versions. In one, the child was labelled as having either ‘ADHD’ or ‘Dyslexia’; in the alternate condition, no such label was ascribed, descriptions were identical in all other respects. Participating teachers were presented with two vignettes, o…
Sample details on OSL data for aeolian sediments in north-eastern part of European Sand Belt
2019
A compilation of previously published and unpublished absolute age (OSL and TL) determinations of aeolian sediments from the north-eastern part of European Sand Belt. Contains age, error, sampling depth, location etc. and a reference to data source. Coordinates of sampling locations for contemporary publications are taken from field observations (GPS), but older ones - published schematic maps. Data set is created according to schema of DATED-1 database (https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.848117).
ZERO: An Efficient Ethernet-Over-IP Tunneling Protocol
2013
An Ethernet over IPv4 tunneling protocol is proposed, which categorizes all Ethernet frames to be tunneled into NICE and UGLY frames. The UGLY frames are tunneled by traditional methods, such as UDP or GRE encapsulation, resulting in substantial overhead due to additional headers and fragmentation usually required to transport long Ethernet frames over IP network typically limited to MTU=1,500 bytes. Meanwhile the NICE Ethernet frames are tunneled without any overhead as plain IPv4 packets due to non-traditional reuse of “fragment offset” or “identification” field in the IP header. It is shown that for typical Internet traffic transported over Ethernet, the proposed ZERO tunneling protocol …
L’etichettatura di sostenibilità nel settore vitivinicolo
2022

EUROHERIT Policy Brief: Optimizing Communication, Multilingualism, and Networking in the EHL
2018
Efficient communication is important for the sustainability of cultural heritage schemes. Being a rather new action, the European Heritage Label (EHL) struggles with issues of visibility and wider recognition among European citizens, in part resulting from modest communication of the diverse actors within the action. To both increase the visibility of the EHL and promote efficient audience engagement, with an emphasis on multilingual representation of Europe’s diverse cultural heritage, we recommend concrete measures to improve coordinated communication among the EHL actors. Our recommendations consist of three thematic areas: communication, multilingualism, and networking.
Challenges for Creating Visibility of European Cultural Heritage : A Case Study of the European Heritage Label
2019
The European Heritage Label (EHL) is a recent flagship heritage action of the European Union and focuses on the European dimension of Europe’s history and heritage as part of the Union’s cultural policy. One of the central concerns of the EU’s cultural policy is to generate a sense of belonging and identity among European citizens. While efficient promotion of the visibility of the EHL among European audiences could be expected corresponding to the political objectives, the EHL continues to struggle with broader public recognition. Based on fieldwork findings, the article discusses the visibility of the EHL action as a network of heritage sites that challenges national narratives by promoti…
