IMPLEMENTAZIONE DI TECNICHE NDT DI TERMOGRAFIA AD INFRAROSSI SU PANNELLI IN COMPOSITO GRP PER APPLICAZIONI NAUTICHE

2010

A New Thermal Theory for Thermo-Mechanical Analysis of Composites

2009

The use of laminated and sandwich construction to achieve multi-functional objectives within a single structure continues to increase. It is especially desirable to use laminated construction in structures exposed to thermal loading, where heat resistant coating materials may be bonded to traditional structural materials. Design of such structures requires an accurate analysis of stresses induced by thermal as well as mechanical loads. A novel laminated plate theory and 3D finite element model based on first-order zig-zag sublaminate approximations are presented for thermal stress analysis of composite laminates and sandwich plates. The finite element is developed with the topology of an ei…

The durability of basalt fibres reinforced polymer (BFRP)

2014

The technology of dry assembly for the production of multi-layer panels has evolved over the past 30 years, becoming an efficient alternative to traditional systems. The direction taken by the market has been increasingly drawn to eco-sustainable systems and in this way, the interest in the use of laminated composite panels for cladding, basalt fibres based. Basalt is a natural rock, silica based, which is produced through a variety of industrial processes into filaments, wool, chopped strands and fabrics. It is characterized by high resistance in chemically aggressive environments, high fire resistance, high mechanical resistance to compression and bending. The study focuses on two types o…

Composite laminates buckling optimization through Levy based Ant Colony Optimization

2010

In this paper, the authors propose the use of the Levy probability distribution as leading mechanism for solutions differentiation in an efficient and bio-inspired optimization algorithm, ant colony optimization in continuous domains, ACOR. In the classical ACOR, new solutions are constructed starting from one solution, selected from an archive, where Gaussian distribution is used for parameter diversification. In the proposed approach, the Levy probability distributions are properly introduced in the solution construction step, in order to couple the ACOR algorithm with the exploration properties of the Levy distribution. The proposed approach has been tested on mathematical test functions…

A beam finite element for magneto-electro-elastic multilayered composite structures

2012

Abstract A new finite element based upon an elastic equivalent single-layer model for shear deformable and straight magneto-electro-elastic generally laminated beam is presented. The element has six degrees of freedom represented by the displacement components and the cross-section rotation of its two nodes. The magneto-electric boundary conditions enter the discrete problem as work-equivalent forces and moments while the electro-magnetic state characterization constitutes a post-processing step. The element possesses the superconvergence property for the static problem of beams with uniform cross-section and homogenous material properties along the beam axis direction. Moreover, it is free…

Modelling unilateral damage effect in strongly anisotropic materials by the introduction of the loading mode in damage mechanics

1999

Abstract Damage weakens the mechanical characteristics of materials. But this weakening can disappear if the cracks close again: this is called the unilateral effect of damage. We propose a model of this phenomenon using damage mechanics in the case of a diffuse network of identical microcracks. The microcracks state is defined with two internal state variables. These two variables are control parameters of the geometry of the microcracks. They also define the loading mode in damage mechanics as in fracture mechanics. In order to limit the anisotropy induced by the microcracks, hence by the loading, we suppose that the geometry of damage spreads into preferential directions. Therefore, this…

Boundary Integral Formulation for Composite Laminates in Torsion

1997

The three-dimensional elastic stress state in a general composite laminate under twisting load is given. The analysis is carried out through an integral equation formulation that is numerically solved by the boundary element method. The integral representation of the elastic behavior is deduced by means of the reciprocity theorem applied to the actual response of each ply and the problem's analytical singular fundamental solutions. The interface continuity conditions due to perfect bonding are considered to complete the laminate mathematical model. The method permits the analysis for generally stacked laminates having general shape of the cross section. By virtue of the formulation characte…

Stress fields in general composite laminates

1996

A direct approach is employed to obtain a general boundary integral formulation for the analysis of composite laminates subjected to uniform axial strain. The integral equations governing the problem are directly deduced from the reciprocity theorem, employing the generalized orthotropic elasticity fundamental solutions expressly inferred. The solution is achieved by the boundary element method, which gives, once the traction-free boundary conditions and the interfacial continuity conditions are enforced, a linear system of algebraic equations. The formulation does not present restrictions with regard to the laminate stacking sequence and it does not require any aprioristic assumption. The …
