First record of the plant bug genus Euchilofulvius from Myanmar (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae: Cylapinae), with…

2015

The cylapine plant bug genus Euchilofulvius was proposed by Poppius (1909) to accommodate a single Indonesian species, E. tibialis Poppius from Mentawai Islands. Several subsequent works have fragmentally added six valid species (Gorczyca, 2006, 2008; Poppius, 1913; Schuh, 1995, 2002–2014 online catalog; Yasunaga & Miyamoto, 2006; Yasunaga et al., 2012), and currently, the following seven members are known mainly from the Oriental Region: E. antennatus Gorczyca, 1999 (Sulawesi); E. carinatus (Poppius, 1913) (India, Sri Lanka); E. josifovi Gorczyca, 2008 (Malaya); E. lepidopterus Yasunaga & Miyamoto, 2012 (Okinawa, Japan); E. pallescens Gorczyca, 2002 (Solomon Islands); E. tibialis Poppius, …

Notes on the genera Peritropisca Carvalho & Lorenzato and Rewafulv…

2013

The genera Peritropisca Carvalho & Lorenzato, 1978 and Rewafulvius Carvalho, 1972 are redescribed. A description of a new species of the genus Peritropisca from Indonesia— P. laticostata sp. nov. and a redescription of P. bituberculata Carvalho & Lorenzato, 1978 are provided. The genus Euchilofulviella Gorczyca, 1999 is proposed as a junior synonym of Rewafulvius Carvalho, 1972 syn. nov. A color habitus picture of the adult and male genitalia drawings of each treated species are provided. A key to the genus Peritropisca is given.

Évaluation neuro-éthologique du comportement alimentaire olfacto-guidé du lapin nouveau-né

2012

2015

This study examines the construction of ethnicity in the permanent exhibitions of two museums: Siida, the National Museum of the Finnish Sámi and the Nature Centre of Metsähallitus, and Ájtte, the Swedish Mountain and Sámi Museum. The study is motivated by three research questions: What kind of ethnic categories and boundaries do the exhibitions create? How is Sámi ethnicity defined by displaying cultural features? How do the exhibitions depict relationships between the Sámi and other ethnicities, governmental power, the ‘Sámi area’, and nature? The exhibitions are examined in the context of the contemporary public discussion about Sámi ethnicity; the study aims to explain how the two museu…

Processus sensoriels cognitifs et comportementaux impliqués dans la perception des mélanges odorants alimentaires complexes chez le lapin nouveau-né …

2015

Within each breath, a large diversity of volatiles molecules of the surrounding reaches our olfactory receptors. Despite the chemical complexity of the natural environment, the organisms succeed to represent their world using relevant information carried by single odorants or mixtures. Focusing on the perception of these stimuli, we explored the processes involved in the treatment of this complex information, sometimes supported by mixtures or sub-mixtures. The treatment is based on two processes: the elemental mode, which allows extracting the odor quality of all or some of the elements, or the configural mode which allows the holistic representation of the mixture. In this doctoral thesis…

Evidence of neonatal memory of odor configuration

2013

The perception of some mixtures of odorants engages configural abilities, i.e. the perception of these mixtures as single odor objects. For instance, data in human adults demonstrated that a mixture of two odorants (AB), one smelling like strawberry and the other like caramel, generates the configural perception of the odor of pineapple (Le Berre et al., 2008; Barkat et al., 2012). Configural processing may be adaptive also for young organisms, to which rapid extraction of chemical information from the maternal environment, highly complex, is a prerequisite to survival. Thus, results in newborn rabbits suggest the perception of a unique odor in the AB mixture (smelling like configural pinea…

Stakeholder dialogue and regional engagement in the context of higher education

2007

Tutkimuksen taustalla on 1990-luvulla Suo…

Induction of body weight loss through RNAi-knockdown of APOBEC1 gene expression in transgenic rabbits

2014

In the search of new strategies to fight against obesity, we targeted a gene pathway involved in energy uptake. We have thus investigated the APOB mRNA editing protein (APOBEC1) gene pathway that is involved in fat absorption in the intestine. The APOB gene encodes two proteins, APOB100 and APOB48, via the editing of a single nucleotide in the APOB mRNA by the APOBEC1 enzyme. The APOB48 protein is mandatory for the synthesis of chylomicrons by intestinal cells to transport dietary lipids and cholesterol. We produced transgenic rabbits expressing permanently and ubiquitously a small hairpin RNA targeting the rabbit APOBEC1 mRNA. These rabbits exhibited a moderately but significantly reduced …
