Stark ionization of atoms and molecules within density functional resonance theory

We show that the energetics and lifetimes of resonances of finite systems under an external electric field can be captured by Kohn–Sham density functional theory (DFT) within the formalism of uniform complex scaling. Properties of resonances are calculated self-consistently in terms of complex densities, potentials, and wave functions using adapted versions of the known algorithms from DFT. We illustrate this new formalism by calculating ionization rates using the complex-scaled local density approximation and exact exchange. We consider a variety of atoms (H, He, Li, and Be) as well as the H2 molecule. Extensions are briefly discussed.
Effect of three different irrigation solutions applied by passive ultrasonic irrigation

Objectives This study evaluated the maximum depth and percentage of irrigant penetration into dentinal tubules by passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI). Materials and Methods Thirty extracted human teeth were instrumented and divided into three groups. According to final irrigation regimen, 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (Group A, NaOCl), 2% chlorhexidine (Group B, CHX) and saline solution (Group C, control group) were applied with Irrisafe 20 tips (Acteon) and PUI. The self-assembly of [Fe(III)(Tp)(CN)(3)](-) and [Fe(II)(bik)(2)(S)(2)](2+) affords the cyanide-bridged mixed valence {Fe(III)(2)Fe(II)(2)}(2+) molecular square, which exhibits a photomagnetic effect under laser light irradiation at low temperature and also shows thermal spin-state conversion near ambient temperature.

AbstractThis paper describes a method, which uses full-waveform terrestrial laser scanning to survey the surface of the slope below the Temple of Juno, located in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento (Sicily, Southern Italy). Castellaccio of Monreale: From the Survey to the Visualisation of Virtual Reconstructions

On Monte Caputo near Monreale stands a castle, presumably built in the twelfth century. The paper presents the first results of a still in progress survey activity, carried out on the entire monument using laser scanning and photogram-metric methods. This activity was carried out as part of a scientific agreement stipu-lated between the University of Palermo, Department of Architecture and the Club Alpino Siciliano, owner of the Castle. The graphic restitution of the survey provided new information and unpublished images of the castle. The interior visual inspection of nuclear pipework is a critical inspection activity required to ensure the continued safe, reliable operation of plant and thus avoid costly outages. We revisit transit time broadening for one of the typical experiment designs in molecular spectroscopy, that of a collimated supersonic beam of particles crossing a focused Gaussian laser beam. In particular, we consider a Doppler-free arrangement of a collimated supersonic beam of Na${}_{2}$ molecules crossing two counterpropagating laser beams that excite a two-photon transition in a three-level ladder scheme.
