Casi di corruzione nei Rerum Gestarum libri di Ammiano Marcellino

The paper provides food for thought on the issue of corruption in Ammianus Marcellinus’ History pointing out the need for revising the criteria of valuation of this phenomenology in order to assess it in modern conceptual terms. As a consequence Ammianus’ Res Gestae have to be analysed moving from the political, economic and social contexts as they stem not only from historiographical sources, but also from the Codes, enabling scholars to test the level of bias of the historian who was stubbornly anchored to the values of tradition that, in his opinion, coincided with the ordo’s privileges.

‘Philonikia’ e ‘timoria’ nel ‘logos’ di Ermocrate a Gela e nell’‘Olimpico’ di Lisia

The aim of the paper is to underline that some themes are both in the logos  of Hermocrates of Syracuse in Gela and in the Olimpic Oration of Lysias. Purposely, two of these are the theme of philonikia , which Thucydides defined «insane», and the theme of timoria , when the revenge is legitimate and advantageous at same time. The use of such slogans by the Attic orator (even if his father was from Syracuse), testifies the desire to evoke the feeling pansikeliote awaked during the Peace of Gela, in order to spread these themes and values in Mainland Greece too.

Los poemas bizantinos titulados Συναξάριον τοῦ τιμημένου γαδάρου y Γαδάρου, λύκου κι ἀλουποὺς διήγησις ὡραία ofrecen un ejemplo significativo y claro de la interacción entre dos variedades lingüísticas opuestas: de un lado, el griego literario empleado para la composición poética; de otro, el griego popular que iba poco a poco ganando terreno con vistas a reemplazar a la lengua antigua.

El arco de Filoctetes, como objeto simbólico importante y sagrado de la tragedia homónima de Sófocles, ha sido estudiado en numerosas ocasiones. A pesar de ello, su importancia como arma sagrada merece una revisión que atienda a los contextos religioso y épico de los que bebió Sófocles. Según la teoría tradicional, esta sacralidad deriva de la proveniencia divina del arco, que procede de Heracles. Con todo, en algunos pasajes podría explicarse mejor por la importancia que, en determinados contextos religiosos, adquirían ciertos objetos venerables que eran considerados también sagrados.

Este libro contiene trabajos seleccionados por sus relevantes aportes entre los presentados como resultado del Proyecto de Investigación “La Deixis Social como elemento básico de la Performance en la Literatura Griega Clásica (narrativa homérica, tragedia esquilea y tragedia sofoclea)”, dirigido por la Dra. Graciela Zecchin de Fasano y co-dirigido por la Dra. Luz Pepe de Suárez (desarrollado entre 2006-2009). Las investigadoras lograron plasmar en sus trabajos la feliz confluencia de la filología clásica con los aportes actualizados de la lingüística y –lo que es relevante por tratarse de textos literarios- con los estudios de poética.

A Qualitative and Quantitative Study on Ancient Latin Texts Concerning the Concept of aether : Some Methodological Considerations

My study focuses on the semantic analysis of an ambiguous Latin word, aether, which may roughly be translated as ‘celestial substance’. The study is carried out by utilising both qualitative and quantitative methods on a digital text corpus containing Latin literature dating from ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. In this paper, the compilation process and the contents of the corpus are described. Beside qualitative research (close reading), various computational methods are implemented on the corpus (distant reading). Este trabalho examina os dispositivos linguísticos por meio dos quais Ésquilo conseguiu apresentar as personagens femininas da Oresteia. A análise é feita após um levantamento das seções recitativas de três tragédias; características fonéticas, morfológicas e sintáticas foram estudadas e comparadas com a linguagem dos personagens masculinos.
