<title>Spin-polarized electron kinetics under high-intensity picosecond excitation</title>
2003
ABSTRACT Spin-polarized electron kinetics is studied by time-resolved polarized photoemission with picosecond resolution. The re-sponse time of strained layer photocathodes is found to be in a range of a few picosecond offering an ultrafast response andhigh spin-polarization of emitted electrons. The studies of the sub-picosecond spin dynamics are facilitated in high-intensityexcitation regime when the length of the emission pulse is enlarged due to the dispersion of acceleration time and Coulombrepulsion ofthe electrons in their flight in the vacuum. Keywords: optical orientation, spin kinetics, strained semiconductor layer, time-resolved emission. 1. Zilo gaismu bloķējošo lēcu ietekme uz kontrastjutību
2018
Organic Thin-Film Transistors with Enhanced Sensing Capabilities
2009
Organic thin-film transistors, used as sensing devices, have been attracting quite a considerable interest lately as they offer advantages such as multi parameter behaviour and possibility to be quite easily molecularly tuned for the detection of specific analytes. Here, a study on the dependences of the devices responses on important parameters such as the active layer thickness and its morphology as well as on the transistor channel length is presented. To introduce the least number of variables the system chosen for this study is quite a simple and well assessed one being based on a thiophene oligomer active layer exposed to 1-butanol vapours.
State of the Art in Alq3-Based Spintronic Devices
2015
Since the first observation of a magnetoresistance signal in a vertical organic spin valve in 2004, tris (8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminium (Alq3) molecule has become a standard material for organic spintronics devices. This chapter will briefly present the state of the art on Alq3-based spintronic devices and the different approaches applied through the years to try to optimize these systems. It will be remarked that, despite extensively investigated, many fundamental questions regarding the spin injection and transport mechanisms through the organic layer are still unclear. The chapter will also present some of the most controversial topics in the organic spintronic area and it will highlight…
Synthes…
The influence of the stomatognathic system on explosive strength: A pilot study
2015
[Purpose] Recent findings suggest there is an interesting interaction between the stomatognathic system and the musculoskeletal system. The aim of this study was therefore to examine the influence of the temporomandibular joint on the explosive strength of the lower limbs. [Subjects and Methods] An observational study was carried out. The subjects were 60 male football players who voluntarily participated in the investigation. After a warm-up phase of 10 minutes, each participant performed three Squat Jumps (SJ) with different mandible positions: mouth closed and mouth open. SJ heights were recorded using a Sensor Medica force platform and the FreeMed system. [Results] Sixty participants we…
Osgood-Schlatter syndrome and pelvic tilt: longitudinal screening on adolescent male soccer players
2010
Aim and Methods. We realized a longitudinal screening on 258 adolescent male subjects practising agonistic soccer; during sport season, 10.47% of group (N=27) showed a tibial anterior apophysite (Osgood-Schlatter syndrome). Results. By statistical analysis we showed that 77.77% of diseases was related to presence of adolescent pelvic tilt; there more we showed that 83.33% of athletes with right Osgood- Schlatter syndrome presented a left pelvic tilt, 66.67% of athletes with left Osgood Schlatter syndrome showed a right pelvic tilt. Conclusion. The study shows that pelvic tilt can represent a risk factor to controlateral Osgood- Schlatter syndrome inducing a functional overload.
Direct measurement of the melting temperature of supported DNA by electrochemical method
2003
The development of biosensors based on DNA hybridization requires a more precise knowledge of the thermodynamics of the hybridization at a solid interface. In particular, the selectivity of hybridization can be affected by a lot of parameters such as the single-strand (ss)DNA density, the pH, the ionic strength or the temperature. The melting temperature, T(m), is in part a function of the ionic strength and of the temperature and therefore provides a useful variable in the control of the selectivity and sensitivity of a DNA chip. The electrochemical technique has been used to determine the T(m) values when the probe is tethered by a DNA self-assembled monolayer (SAM). We have built a speci…
Nature of sterols affects plasma membrane behavior and yeast survival during dehydration.
2011
International audience; The plasma membrane (PM) is a main site of injury during osmotic perturbation. Sterols, major lipids of the PM structure in eukaryotes, are thought to play a role in ensuring the stability of the lipid bilayer during physicochemical perturbations. Here, we investigated the relationship between the nature of PM sterols and resistance of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae to hyperosmotic treatment. We compared the responses to osmotic dehydration (viability, sterol quantification, ultrastructure, cell volume, and membrane permeability) in the wild-type (WT) strain and the ergosterol mutant erg6Δ strain. Our main results suggest that the nature of membrane sterols gover…
Hybrid magnetic materials based on layered double hydroxides: from the chemistry towards the applications
2014
Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are the leitmotiv of this dissertation. Contradicting the assertion that “any past was better”, LDHs have been continuously revisited from the middle of the twentieth century, and represent an excellent example of the never-ending beauty of Chemistry. New synthetic perspectives are giving a new impetus to LDH chemistry, which among hybrid materials, are finding their heyday. This is resulting in novel materials and also paving the way for new fundamental and practical insights. This dissertation is focused on magnetic LDHs, and for the sake of clarity it is organized in three main parts: we will move from basic synthetic and physical aspects of LDHs, through…
