Growth factor concentrations and their placental mRNA expression are modulated in gestational diabetes mellitus: possible interactions with macrosomia
2009
Abstract Background Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a form of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy. GDM is a well known risk factor for foetal overgrowth, termed macrosomia which is influenced by maternal hypergycemia and endocrine status through placental circulation. The study was undertaken to investigate the implication of growth factors and their receptors in GDM and macrosomia, and to discuss the role of the materno-foeto-placental axis in the in-utero regulation of foetal growth. Methods 30 women with GDM and their 30 macrosomic babies (4.75 ± 0.15 kg), and 30 healthy age-matched pregnant women and their 30 newborns (3.50 ± 0.10 kg) were recruited in the present study. Serum …
Risk of hypertension in women with polycystic ovary syndrome: a systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression
2019
Abstract Background A limited number of publications have assessed the prevalence of hypertension (HTN) in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients with inconclusive results. Since in general populations the occurrence of hypertension is related to age per se, we investigated the prevalence (P) / relative risk (RR) of HTN in pooled patients with PCOS, vs control population among reproductive age women with PCOS, compared to menopause/aging patients. Methods PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, web of science, and Google scholar were systematically searched for retrieving observational studies published from inception to April 2019 investigating the HTN in patients with PCOS. The primary outcome …
Office hysteroscopic treatment of a vanishing external uterine orifice in a postmenopausal woman with an obstetrical history of 44 abortions
2015
Abstract Cervical stenosis, defined as cervical scarring of variable degree, represents a significant anatomical impediment to hysteroscopic procedures. Acquired cervical stenoses are more common than congenital forms and they are mainly associated with aging, estrogen–progesteron drugs, cervical trauma or carcinoma. The overcoming of cervical stenosis at office hysteroscopy is challenging and it often fails requiring the scheduling of the patient for an in-patient treatment under general anesthesia. We report the office hysteroscopy treatment of a vanishing external uterine orifice in a postmenopausal woman with an ultrasonographic report of a heterogeneous and thick endometrium suggestive…
Sentinel node mapping in endometrial cancer: Tips and tricks to improve bilateral detection rate. The sentitricks study, a monocentric experience.
2020
Abstract Objective The objective of the study is to show some small tricks for bilateral sentinel lymph node (SLN) uptake in endometrial cancer. Materials and methods Each step of the sentinel lymph node technique was analyzed. The cervix was exposed through the use of vaginal valves and by Martin pliers stapling of the anterior cervical lip. Fifty mg Indocyanine Green (ICG) powder was diluted with 10 ml of physiological solution. The spinal needle was marked at 15 mm with a steri-strip. After 20 min from the administration, in case of no LNS identification, an additional 1 ml in the non-detected side was administered in the superficial cervical area. All cervical injections were made by a …
Childhood adherence to a potentially healthy and sustainable Nordic diet and later overweight: The Norwegian Mother, Father and Child Cohort Study (M…
2020
Abstract The New Nordic Diet (NND) is a potentially healthy and sustainable dietary pattern represented by locally available and traditionally consumed foods in the Northern countries. The diet has been commonly examined in adult populations, but less is known regarding its potential associations with overweight/obesity in children. We have previously developed child diet scores measuring compliance to the NND at child age 6 and 18 months and 3 and 7 years. In this study, we aimed to describe child and maternal characteristics and assess potential associations between the age‐specific diet scores and child overweight at 8 years. This study is based on the Norwegian Mother, Father and Child …
Prostasome-like vesicles stimulate acrosome reaction of pig spermatozoa
2007
Abstract Background The presence of small membranous particles characterizes the male genital fluids of different mammalian species. The influence of semen vesicles, denominated prostasomes, on sperm functional properties has been well documented in humans, but their biological activity is scarcely known in other species. The present work investigated prostasome-like vesicles in pig semen for their ability to interact with spermatozoa and to affect acrosome reaction. Methods Prostasome-like vesicles have been isolated from pig seminal plasma by high-speed centrifugation and Sephadex G-200 gel chromatography. Morphology of purified vesicles has been checked by scanning electron microscopy wh…
Un nuevo anovulador antiandrogénico
1982
Acute stress may induce ovulation in women
2010
Abstract Background This study aims to gather information either supporting or rejecting the hypothesis that acute stress may induce ovulation in women. The formulation of this hypothesis is based on 2 facts: 1) estrogen-primed postmenopausal or ovariectomized women display an adrenal-progesterone-induced ovulatory-like luteinizing hormone (LH) surge in response to exogenous adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) administration; and 2) women display multiple follicular waves during an interovulatory interval, and likely during pregnancy and lactation. Thus, acute stress may induce ovulation in women displaying appropriate serum levels of estradiol and one or more follicles large enough to respo…
Optimal Timing for Oocyte Denudation and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection
2011
Objectives. To analyze the impact of oocyte denudation and microinjection timings on intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) outcomes.Study Design. We included ICSI cycles with the following parameters: rank 1 or 2, female age years, male factor infertility, long protocol using GnRH agonist and rFSH for ovarian stimulation, and use of freshly ejaculated sperm (). Several ICSI parameters were analyzed according to the time between oocyte retrieval and denudation () and the time between denudation and ICSI () using a statistical logistic regression analysis.Results. Neither nor had a significant influence on the Metaphase II (MII) rate but the fertilisation rate (FR) showed a significant impr…
