Erika Steinbach: The Last Charismatic Representative of the Expellees?
2015
International audience; This paper aims to show how Erika Steinbach, at the head of the BdV (Federation of Deportees) since 1998, has come to embody in person this large social group, in the eyes of the media and of various institutions. No stranger to controversy, she represents the hereditary German enemy in Poland (thus plaguing German diplomatic relations with the country) and is strongly rejected by certain parts of the population while being unconditionally supported by the deportees themselves. The ambiguous role played by this political figure will be shown through the analysis of quarrels surrounding the inauguration of a memorial to the deportees. Steinbach has been both the drivi…
Collaborative leadership as the lens for co-creating an innovation - A curriculum reform in management education
2013
The paper presents collaborative leadership to create a curriculum reform in management education. In our case study, a particular business school wanted to re-modify its curriculum according to turbulence coming, first, outside of the school in terms of increasing complexity in business life and, second, from inside in terms of a large merger. As a consequence, in the co-creation process, a socially-mediated perturbance process started in the school in order to answer the turbulence. According our preliminary results, this kind of process seems to be multilevel and multiphase. It requires new attitudes and a change of the mindset to see management education containing not only knowledge bu…
Leadership, Perceptions, and Turnover Intentions: Why Stay?
2014
The purpose of the quantitative correlational study was to highlight the variable relationships between tenure, perceptions, job satisfaction, and turnover intentions for a sample consisting of individuals working for managers who were previously peers. The study incorporated a quantitative correlational structure and the rationale for choosing the structure for the initiative was to aid in the analysis of sample data gathered using Likert-type surveying tools regarding the variables chosen for the initiative. The findings, through conducting statistical analysis, highlighted significant correlation between job satisfaction and turnover intentions and significant correlation between percept…
Ethics and Responsibility in ICT-Enterprises - Prospects and Challenges for Management and Leadership
2009
In this article the author critically analyzes underlying discursive statements on managerial and leadership issues in relation to ethics and responsibility in information and communication technology enterprises – the firms and people involved in the case have a Finnish and/or Nordic background. The topic of the study is remarkably broad, and so this fact indicates the existence of limited, subjectively constructed views on multiple theoretical, methodological and empirical insights and dimensions. The issues of context, discourse and text are important in these kinds of qualitative interpretations. The triangle formed by technology, business and organization has some essence in contempora…
Matteo Messina Denaro, così nasce un superboss
2011
Leadership in internationalization strategies
2022
This paper examines leadership in internationalization strategies for an asymmetric cost duopoly where firms choose between exports and foreign direct investment (FDI) in a sequential setting. The incentive to lead and to engage in FDI is stronger for the more efficient firm. With sequential choices and the efficient firm playing in advance, it is less likely that firms pick identical internationalization strategies in equilibrium, as compared with simultaneous choices; this is more so for greater cost asymmetry. It also happens for large enough oligopoly profitability when the inefficient firm plays in advance. Follow-the-leader behaviour in FDI arises for low values of the setup cost. Alt…

Towards a sustainable leader-follower relationship: constructive dissensus, organizational virtuousness and happiness at work (haw)
2020
This paper examines how leaders and followers can interact positively under complex and bounded conditions. For this purpose, this paper conceptualizes and measures the concept of constructive dissensus. Constructive dissensus relates to a mutual understanding leading to a situation of coregulation. In addition, the relationship between constructive dissensus and happiness at work is examined on the basis of affective events theory. Furthermore, the mediating role of organizational virtuousness is assessed. Through structural equation modeling, a multilevel analysis was performed. Data from 130 bank branches and 606 employees were gathered. The results reveal a direct effect of constructive…
The Changing Roles of Academic Leaders: Decision-Making, Power, and Performance
2019
AbstractMajor reforms in the Nordic countries have increased the formal autonomy of higher education institutions (HEIs) to make decisions over their own activities, both academic core tasks and managerial/administrative activities. The issue addressed in this chapter is how these changes have affected the role of the academic leader. Across the four countries, we see clear signs of change regarding academic leadership comprising a mix of institutional logics in the interviews: the professional, collegial traditional academic leadership, which is based on rotating systems, election among peers, and collegial decision-making, has been complemented with, and in some places replaced by, a mana…
