English teachers' perception of the purpose of a CD connected to English textbooks

 Vieraan kielen opiskelussa ja opettamisessa on käytetty pitkään apuvälineinä erilaisia äänitteitä. Kuitenkin vasta lähiaikoina äänitteitä on alettu käyttää myös luokkahuoneen ulkopuolella. Nykyisin monissa suomalaisissa peruskouluissa käytetään englannin kielen oppikirjoja, joissa tulee mukana myös oppilaan CD. Tämä CD on tarkoitettu oppilaan itsenäiseen käyttöön tukemaan vieraan kielen opiskelua kotona. Koska CD:n käyttö on vielä uutta, ei sitä ole tutkittukaan. Oppikirjojen tarjoamat itsearviointitehtävät eivät aina kuitenkaan palvele tarkoitustaan koska ne ovat usein yksinkertaisia ja samanlaisia keskenään, ja näin ollen oppilaat ja opettajat eivät aina koe niitä hyödyllisiksi. Children's help seeking: the role of parenting

Abstract Ninety-nine families with a school-age child participated in this study, aimed at analysing the relationship between parenting and children's help seeking. The parenting data included self-reports on parents' child-rearing principles and behavioural observations during parent–child interactions. To test help seeking, the children were placed in a problem-solving situation and had the opportunity to seek help from the experimenter. For girls, higher levels of parental nurturance were linked to longer thinking times preceding help seeking and to lessened capacity to reuse previously received help. Dynamic assessment of word derivational knowledge: Tracing the development of a learner

The present paper reports on a case study that explored the applicability of dynamic assessment (DA) for promoting learners’ word derivational knowledge in English as a second or a foreign language (L2). One learner’s performance on tasks assessing his word derivational knowledge was measured four times. The first two measurements were conducted before and after three weekly human-mediated DA sessions and the last two, which took place a year and a half later, before and after three weekly computerised DA sessions. The Dynamic Relationship between Response Processes and Self-Regulation in Critical Thinking Assessments

Our aim was to explore higher education students’ response and self-regulatory processes plus the relationship between these, as evidenced in two types of performance-based critical thinking tasks included in the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA+) International instrument. The data collection consisted of 20 cognitive laboratories. The data were analyzed using a qualitative approach. The tasks were found to trigger different response and self-regulatory processes. In my case study, I used two composing tasks to examine how the inclusive composing method (OSM) I have developed promotes the achievement of the aims of the new core curriculum for basic education 2014 and realises the core metaphors of learning.
