Everyday Listening to Music and Emotion Among College Students
2013
This study attempted to reveal the relationship between everyday listening to music and emotion among col-lege students. Participants were 13 female and 2 male college students who were given booklets to record the following over an 8-day period: dates and times of their everyday experiences of listening to music, duration of listening, locations and contexts of listening, active or passive listening, emotions before and after listening, and tiles and artists to which they listened. Results indicated that the participants listened to music for 5 to 30 minutes while driving or riding in a car. Emotions reported both before and after listening to music were mainly ‘happy’, ‘calm’, and ‘dull’.…
IURA NOVIT CURA sacīkstes principa kontekstā
2017
Viens no civilprocesa pamatprincipiem ir sacīkstes princips, atbilstoši kuram puses savas procesuālās tiesības īsteno sacīkstes formā, kas attiecībā uz prasītāju īstenojas arī tajā, ka viņš izvēlas, kādu prasību tiesā celt un kādā materiāltiesiskā tvērumā prasības pieteikumā norādītos apstākļus ietvert. Līdz ar to autore nepiekrīt judikatūrā atzītajam, ka prasības pamats ir nevis tiesību norma, bet gan faktiskie apstākļi, kuri rada prasījumu.
This paper traces the origins and literary development of the legend of the Holy Grial as it…
'Different' and 'distinct' as markers of otherness: A corpus-driven study of the (re)creation of privilege in high standard hotels.
2020
The present study seeks to offer an understanding of how high-end hotel websites produce privilege, creating a sense of belonging and entitlement for their 4/5-star guests. The experience of tourism is intrinsically linked to embracing otherness, and as a reflection of this, hotel websites offer a characterization of cultural otherness in an attempt to make it resonate with the potential expectations of a socioeconomically privileged client. The study considers the question of what elements of experience of otherness the website will address, relying on a Critical Discourse Analysis perspective and drawing on Bourdieu's notion of habitus as related to lifestyle, difference and distinction. …
'Legibus et moribus' in Gai 1.1
2022
Student Perceptions of the Ethics of Professors
2005
Ethical violations are becoming common in the business world. Teaching proper ethical behavior can begin in college. In this study, we surveyed 350 students to determine what affects students’ perceptions of the ethics of professors and to determine whether or not taking a course in ethics changes this perception. The most important factor in determining whether or not a professor is ethical is “fairness in grading.” Surprisingly, there was no statistically significant difference between students who took a course in ethics and those who did not in their perception of what makes a professor ethical or unethical. There were some differences, however, between males and females in these percep…
Structural Discrimination in Physical Education. The “Encounter” Between the (White) Norwegian Teaching Content in Physical Education Lessons and Fem…
2021
Background: Throughout society, including in the field of sports and physical education (PE), there are extensive debates on racism and structural racism. Researchers have found that students of color experience racial stereotyping and discrimination in PE. Studies also show that PE teaching practices reflect a masculine culture, emphasizing traditional (Western) competitive male sports and physical fitness practices, while marginalizing female students of color. Simultaneously these students also negotiate, resist, and operate as visible agents within these practices. While previous research has tended toward focusing on the experiences (of discrimination) from the perspective of students …
Online prevention programmes for university students: stakeholder perspectives from six European countries
2021
Abstract Background Students beginning university are at a heightened risk for developing mental health disorders. Online prevention and early intervention programmes targeting mental health have the potential to reduce this risk, however, previous research has shown uptake to be rather poor. Understanding university stakeholders’ (e.g. governing level and delivery staff [DS] and students) views and attitudes towards such online prevention programmes could help with their development, implementation and dissemination within university settings. Methods Semi-structured interviews, focus groups and online surveys were completed with staff at a governing level, university students and DS (i.e.…
Self-care of heart failure patients: practical management recommendations from the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology
2020
Self-care is essential in the long-term management of chronic heart failure. Heart failure guidelines stress the importance of patient education on treatment adherence, lifestyle changes, symptom monitoring and adequate response to possible deterioration. Self-care is related to medical and person-centred outcomes in patients with heart failure such as better quality of life as well as lower mortality and readmission rates. Although guidelines give general direction for self-care advice, health care professionals working with patients with heart failure need more specific recommendations. The aim of the management recommendations in this paper is to provide practical advice for health profe…
