Patterns of Regional Income Distribution in Uruguay (1872–2012): A Story of Agglomeration, Natural Resources and Public Policies
2020
In this chapter, we provide a new data set of regional GDP and GDP per capita for Uruguay between 1870 and 2012. As regards the long-term evolution of regional inequality, we find evidence of a persistent decline from the last third of the nineteenth century up to the 1960s with a strong reversal of the process from then on. The first decade of the twenty-first century, however, shows a new decreasing trend in regional inequality. Montevideo has represented a large share, both demographically and economically, over time as consequence of a privileged access to sea and the fact that the city was built around a natural port with excellent conditions. In addition, agglomeration forces identifi…
2021
[ENIn the last 10 years we have seen an increase in the number of publications related to the inclusion in university classrooms of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Asperger's Syndrome or high functioning autism. This article summarizes the literature on the presence of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders at the University and reflects on the need to develop specific programs for their care within the framework of support services for students with disabilities or other similar service structures. Among the specific measures, we have found experiences on awareness programs for teachers and students with the aim of generating a culture about "autism", programs to treat anxiety, m…
Treball social i habitatge social: binomi i oportunitat
2013
This article demonstrates through professional practice the necessary links that must exist between social work intervention and the state-subsidized housing assigned for the underprivileged population. To demonstrate this link, the results of good practices executed (mainly those in which a community vision with specific interventions have been incorporated) are shown from the historical perspective. To conclude, viable proposals are given from the local point of view.
The Principles of Canonical Mechanics
2010
Canonical mechanics is a central part of general mechanics, where one goes beyond the somewhat narrow framework of Newtonian mechanics with position coordinates in the three-dimensional space, towards a more general formulation of mechanical systems belonging to a much larger class. This is the first step of abstraction, leaving behind ballistics, satellite orbits, inclined planes, and pendulum-clocks; it leads to a new kind of description that turns out to be useful in areas of physics far beyond mechanics. Through d’Alembert’s principle we discover the concept of the Lagrangian function and the framework of Lagrangian mechanics that is built onto it. Lagrangian functions are particularly …
Children’s Public Participation, Middle-Class Families and Emotions
2014
The article examines the activities of a municipal children's parliament (the TCP) in a middle-sized Finnish town. The article focuses on members of the TCP board and their parents and the emphasis is on parents' views as very little research exists on family background in relation to children's public participation. All the participating families were middle-class, both as self-defined and according to their socioeconomic background. The parents studied detailed different emotions they and their children experienced as members of the children's parliament. The article illustrates that being a middle-class child and participating in civic activities is not an uncomplicated description of pr…
Error analysis of the orthogonal series solution of linear time-invariant systems
1989
Similarities in the error analysis of the polynomial series solution of linear time-invariant systems are pointed out.
Real symplectic formulation of local special geometry
2006
We consider a formulation of local special geometry in terms of Darboux special coordinates $P^I=(p^i,q_i)$, $I=1,...,2n$. A general formula for the metric is obtained which is manifestly $\mathbf{Sp}(2n,\mathbb{R})$ covariant. Unlike the rigid case the metric is not given by the Hessian of the real function $S(P)$ which is the Legendre transform of the imaginary part of the holomorphic prepotential. Rather it is given by an expression that contains $S$, its Hessian and the conjugate momenta $S_I=\frac{\partial S}{\partial P^I}$. Only in the one-dimensional case ($n=1$) is the real (two-dimensional) metric proportional to the Hessian with an appropriate conformal factor.
Abstract: The black legend of Borja began in Italy and Italians began in the fifteenth century. Created by r…
Income and expenses of Jan Karol Chodkiewicz (1686–1712), starost of Veliuona, Zabłudów, Baisogala and Daugeliskis, relating to his schooling in Wars…
2021
