2012
This article analyses the death of Astyanax in Troades by Euripides, within the wider context of the representation of violence in Attic drama. In her lamentation Andromache presents the killing of the child as barbaric and savage, so much so that she attributes the Greeks with a cannibalistic desire to feed on the meat of Astyanax. While weeping over the body, Hecuba underlines the uselessness of funeral rites, and therefore also what she is doing for the child: in this way the Greeks remain attached to the bestiality of there action for ever without being able to enter into the horizon of civilization of the funeral rite, granted by them to the defeated. The funeral eases the emotional te…

Spectrum of pncA Mutations in Multidrug-Resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis Isolates Obtained in Latvia

Pyrazinamide (PZA) is an effective antituberculous agent ([1][1]) that becomes active when bacterial pyrazinamidase converts it to pyrazinoic acid, which is toxic to mycobacteria ([4][2]). In Mycobacerium tuberculosis , PZA resistance is associated with the loss of pyrazinamidase activity, mainly
A free plate model can predict guided modes propagating in tubular bone-mimicking phantoms
2014
The goal of this work was to show that a non-absorbing free plate model can predict with a reasonable accuracy guided modes measured in bone-mimicking phantoms that have circular cross-section. Experiments were carried out on uncoated and coated phantoms using a clinical axial transmission setup. Adjustment of the plate model to the experimental data yielded estimates for the waveguide characteristics (thickness, bulk wave velocities). Fair agreement was achieved over a frequency range of 0.4 to 1.6 MHz. A lower accuracy observed for the thinnest bone-mimicking phantoms was caused by limitations in the wave number measurements rather than by the model itself.

Il transfert di Curial
2018
