Protocol for Low-level laser therapy in traumatic ulcer after troncular anesthesia: Case report in pediatric dentistry

The aim of this study was to report a protocol of use for low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in traumatic ulcer in the lower lip after inferior alveolar nerve block anesthesia (IANBA). A 3-year-old patient, male, undergoing treatment of carious lesions was submitted to an indirect pulp capping in tooth 74 under IANBA. The procedure was completed without intercurrences, but on next day, the child presented extensive traumatic ulcer in the left lower lip, with complaint of pain. Two sequential applications with LLLT were applied in punctual mode under pressure around the lesion. After 1 week, the mother reported significant improvement. This article briefly describes the use of a photon counting system (ARGUS-100) in the detection of low levels of light. The ARGUS-100 was used in determining ATP in cell sections from tumor tissues and in measuring a luminescence-enhanced immunoluminometric assay, using ferritin as the analyte, based on the luminol-peroxide-4-iodophenol reaction with peroxidase as the enzyme. The aim is not so much the presentation of data, but rather to show the potentials of the photon counting camera in increasing our knowledge of the cellular and subcellular levels, as well as lowering the detection limits in already sensitive systems, such as immunoassays.

Recently it has been reported that low serum IL-10 levels are associated with an increased susceptibility for metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Identification and quantitation of trace amounts of barbiturates with glass capillary gas chromatography

Pre-chromatographic reactions are no longer a necessary evil. Equipment such as the microrefluxer now allows reproducible 7-μl-reactions to be carried out in a short time. Thus multiple derivatisations can be used together with glass capillary GC for routine identifications. The method has been succesfully applied to barbiturates. Retention data of their methyl-, allyl- and benzyl-derivatives are given. Quantitative blood level determinations are briefly discussed.

Cyclosporine A (CsA) is an immunosuppressive drug which determines, at high dosage, glucose intolerance (1). Different drugs present a pharmacological interaction with CsA increasing or reducing its blood level (2). To investigate the role of Glybenclamide (HB419), a sulphonilureic oral antidiabetic drug of large use, on CsA glucose metabolic effect, we have administered CsA + HB419 in rats. The aim of our work is to evaluate if HB419 influences CsA blood levels and if it improves glucose tolerance.

The aim of this study was to evaluate blood pressure (BP) control level in treated hypertensive patients in Latvia and to compare their characteristics according to the adequacy of BP control. Family physicians collected information on demographic and clinical characteristics, and current antihypertensive treatment of 455 18–80-year-old patients with essential arterial hypertension treated for 1 or more years.
