Analyzing Learned Representations of a Deep ASR Performance Prediction Model

2018

This paper addresses a relatively new task: prediction of ASR performance on unseen broadcast programs. In a previous paper, we presented an ASR performance prediction system using CNNs that encode both text (ASR transcript) and speech, in order to predict word error rate. This work is dedicated to the analysis of speech signal embeddings and text embeddings learnt by the CNN while training our prediction model. We try to better understand which information is captured by the deep model and its relation with different conditioning factors. It is shown that hidden layers convey a clear signal about speech style, accent and broadcast type. We then try to leverage these 3 types of information …

Acceptance of Online Health Services for Self-Help in the Context of Mental Health : Understanding Young Adults Experiences

2018

This paper explores the understanding of the acceptance of online health services from a selfhelp perspective in the context of mental health. By examining the experiences of young adults, this paper develops a framework to leverage the current understanding of the factors that would support the acceptance and use of these types of services. To this end, a multidisciplinary perspective incorporating knowledge from the service marketing, health, and information systems literature is used. The results suggest that the production of online services that are meant for self-help purposes necessitates a focus on the acceptance of technology and, more importantly, instrumental value creation, as t…

Edge-Based Missing Data Imputation in Large-Scale Environments

2021

Smart cities leverage large amounts of data acquired in the urban environment in the context of decision support tools. These tools enable monitoring the environment to improve the quality of services offered to citizens. The increasing diffusion of personal Internet of things devices capable of sensing the physical environment allows for low-cost solutions to acquire a large amount of information within the urban environment. On the one hand, the use of mobile and intermittent sensors implies new scenarios of large-scale data analysis

Outlier recognition in crystal-structure least-squares modelling by diagnostic techniques based on leverage analysis.

2005

The identification of the actual outliers in a least-squares crystal-structure model refinement and their subsequent elimination from the data set is a non-trivial task that has to be carried out carefully when a high level of accuracy of the estimates is required. One of the most suitable tools for detecting the influence of each data entry on the regression is the identification of ;leverage points'. On the other hand, the recognition of the actual statistical outliers is effectively possible by using some diagnostics as a function of the leverage, such as Cook's distance, DFFITS and FVARATIO. The evaluation of these estimators makes it possible to achieve a reliable identification of the…

Structural Dynamics and Intentional Governance in Strategic Interorganizational Network Evolution: A Multilevel Approach

2016

This article aims to shed light on the drivers underlying the role and scope of intentional governance of the structural dynamics of whole interorganizational networks. Prior research has distinguished networks that are emergent from networks that are orchestrated. While empirical studies have shown situations in which the role and scope of intentional governance of whole interorganizational networks has changed in time, and there is a growing interest regarding the endogenous drivers of network dynamics, the dimensions that influence intentional governance of network structure dynamics and the way this is carried out remain still to be elucidated. In order to pinpoint these drivers, we le…

Predictive and Evolutive Cross-Referencing for Web Textual Sources

2017

International audience; One of the main challenges in the domain of competitive intelligence is to harness important volumes of information from the web, and extract the most valuable pieces of information. As the amount of information available on the web grows rapidly and is very heterogeneous, this process becomes overwhelming for experts. To leverage this challenge, this paper presents a vision for a novel process that performs cross-referencing at web scale. This process uses a focused crawler and a semantic-based classifier to cross-reference textual items without expert intervention, based on Big Data and Semantic Web technologies. The system is described thoroughly, and interests of…

Leveraging Uncertainty Estimates to Improve Segmentation Performance in Cardiac MR

2021

In medical image segmentation, several studies have used Bayesian neural networks to segment and quantify the uncertainty of the images. These studies show that there might be an increased epistemic uncertainty in areas where there are semantically and visually challenging pixels. The uncertain areas of the image can be of a great interest as they can possibly indicate the regions of incorrect segmentation. To leverage the uncertainty information, we propose a segmentation model that incorporates the uncertainty into its learning process. Firstly, we generate the uncertainty estimate (sample variance) using Monte-Carlo dropout during training. Then we incorporate it into the loss function t…

THE FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF COMMERCIAL BANKS LISTED AND TRADED ON BUCHAREST STOCK EXCHANGE

2015

Even though banks are playing the role of financial intermediaries, their main objective is to obtain profit. The most commonly used indicator of the profitability assessment, according to the shareholder vision is represented by the return on equity. This study has focused on achieving a factor analysis on financial profitability obtained by the top three commercial banks by using the Du Pont. The purpose of this analysis was to identify the causes rate developments. The analysis was done over a period of eight years, respectively from 2007 since 2014. Data were taken from the financial statements published by the three credit institutions. The results have demonstrated that banks in order…

Goodwill and Criteria for its Recognition in Financial Statements

2004

The article summarises a research on goodwill which is one of the most controversial assets. The research includes a comparison between the descriptions of the economic nature of goodwill and an analysis of various valuation methods and accounting policies. The article discusses the internationally recognised problem that there coexist several accepted methods of accounting for goodwill arising from the acquisition of an enterprise, as a result of which the accountancy data of different enterprises and countries are incomparable.
