Event reconstruction algorithms for the ATLAS trigger

2007

The ATLAS experiment under construction at CERN is due to begin operation at the end of 2007. The detector will record the results of proton-proton collisions at a centerof- mass energy of 14 TeV. The trigger is a three-tier system designed to identify in real-time potentially interesting events that are then saved for detailed offline analysis. The trigger system will select approximately 200 Hz of potentially interesting events out of the 40 MHz bunch-crossing rate (with 109 interactions per second at the nominal luminosity). The impact of the LHC nuclear program on nPDFs

Volume: 612 The proton-lead and lead-lead runs at the LHC are providing an enormous amount of data sensitive to the nuclear modifications of the initial state. The measurements explore a region of phase space not probed by previous experiments opening a possibility to test and hopefully, also improve the current knowledge of nuclear parton densities. In this talk, we discuss to what extent the present quantitative results for the charge asymmetry in electroweak boson production show sensitivity to the nuclear parton distributions. Peer reviewed

A través de estas líneas se analiza la pervivencia de motivos ornamentales en el Renacimiento, en concreto, el uso de letras árabes a partir del estudio de tres escenas de las puertas del retablo mayor de la catedral de Valencia pintadas por los Hernandos. The article takes Zachary Baqué's study of Los Angeles in the films of David Lynch as a starting point to explore David Lynch's Hollywood movies. The author contends that the films offer more than a satirical representation of a corrupt, unhealthy system which threatens dreams and artistic creativity, or a parodic play on Hollywood genre and narrative conventions. Green sulphur bacteria as a component of the photosynthetic plankton community in small dimictic humic lakes with an anoxic hypolimnion

High bacteriochlorophyll (BChl) concentrations in the anoxic water layers of some humic lakes have indicated that green sulphur bacteria (GSB) may be ecologically significant. The abundance and spatial distribution of GSB were therefore addressed in 13 small humic lakes using fragment analysis and sequencing of PCR-amplified 16S rRNA genes. GSB were detected from lakes where the photosynthetically active radiation was at least 1.1 µE m-2 s-1 at the oxic-anoxic boundary layer. In these lakes, 13 to 42% of the 16S rRNA gene sequences of the anoxic water column were assigned to GSB. Compositions and products based on the chemical crosslinking of hyaluronic acid with a polyfunctional polymer having a protein-like structure, bearing hydrazido pendent groups along the polymeric chain. The polymer is preferably, alpha-beta-polyaspartylhydrazide, a biocompatible macromolecule. The materials obtained after crosslinking, specifically hydrogels, undergo a reduced chemical and enzymatic degradation, unlike the starting hyaluronic acid, and they can be used to prepare systems for applications in the biomedical and pharmaceutical field.
