The Discursive Struggles of the Client–Worker Relationship in the Social Services

2020

This study examines how disability service workers identify the discourses of the client-worker relationships. We studied the clientworker relationship from the perspective of the relational dialectics theory with a focus on relational contradictions and the meanings created within discursive struggles. We analyzed the interview data from 22 social workers using contrapuntal analysis. According to the social workers’ perceptions, two discursive struggles exist in client-worker relationships: i) the struggle of integration, consisting of the contradiction of the ideal and the real and the contradiction of closeness and reservedness and ii) the struggle of certainty, consisting of the contrad…

The groundwater pollution of Korneuburg, Austria : its issue life-cycle in the public discourse and collaboration and confrontation strategies of act…

2015

This thesis is a case study about the groundwater contamination of Korneuburg, Austria. The company Kwizda was responsible for pesticides leaking into the groundwater. The contamination was kept quiet with the help of local authorities and would have never come to light if not for the diligent efforts of affected residents. Their collaboration with environmental activists and a journalist led to the uncovering of the incident, eventually leading to remediation measures and lawsuits. While public attention to the issue was high, the authorities approved a controversial remediation measure that would lead to further pollution. With a particular reference to environmental and social issues, th…

The Strategic Cognition View of Issue Salience and the Evolution of a Political Issue : Landis & Gyr, the Hungarian Uprising and East-West Trade, 195…

2017

Why do firms facing similar stakeholder issues respond quite differently? The recently introduced strategic cognition view of issue salience and firm responsiveness (hereinafter: issue salience model) seeks to tackle this core question of stakeholder theory. I extend the nascent theorizing with a historical case study in order to rethink the model’s firm-centric perspective. The firm under examination in this historical case study is the Swiss multinational Landis & Gyr (LG) during the Cold War period. Like many other Swiss exportoriented companies in the 1950s and early 1960s, LG was challenged by Swiss pressure groups, which were highly effective at putting an issue on the public agenda: …

2.3.4. Il processo di alienazione: Palazzo Barlotta di San Giuseppe e Palazzo Miano

2010

RELATIONSHIP MARKETING - A CLIENT RELATIONSHIP LIFECYCLE PERSPECTIVE - THEORETICAL CONSIDERATIONS ON THE CLIENT ACQUISITION AND RETENTION PHASE

2015

The purpose of this paper is to review conceptually the first two phases of the client relationship lifecycle. In this regard, the author has structured the paper in two parts, the first one describing the client acquisition phase, and the second one the client retention phase. Thus, the client acquisition phase describes the actions undertaken by both the client and the company for starting an exchange relationship. Client retention is defined by using different theoretical surrogates (e.g. loyalty, rebuying behaviour), and determinants (e.g. satisfaction, social effects, anticipated regret of future use). Moreover, the dynamic character of this phase is taken in consideration by presentin…

RELATIONSHIP MARKETING - A CLIENT RELATIONSHIP LIFECYCLE PERSPECTIVE - THEORETICAL CONSIDERATIONS ON THE CLIENT REGAINING PHASE

2015

The purpose of this paper is to detail the relationship marketing theory by considering the client relationship lifecycle perspective, in general, and the regaining/dissolution phase, in particular. According to the specific literature, the last phase of a client-company relationship can either improve (re-winning or regaining phase) or end the relationship (dissolution phase). In this regard, the author presents the motives for which a client ends his relationship with the company and the means which the company can use in order to reduce the customer churn rate. Moreover, forms of the clients' complaining and revenge behaviour are described, as well as the companies' alternatives for mana…

Developing a Conceptual Framework for Investigating Communication Supporting Community Resilience

2015

In crisis management, cooperation within the response network is seen as crucial. Usually, this network refers to authorities and nongovernmental organizations, such as the Red Cross. However, the authors argue that to improve societal resilience one should take a broader overview of the actors involved in crisis preparedness and mitigation, and also include the public. With this in mind, the role of communication is scrutinized and a conceptual framework developed as a starting point for further investigation into how communication may be developed to strengthen a community approach to crisis management that includes citizen groups in the broader response network. A model is presented alon…
